"ofs baptism"

Hey Journal!

Dan and I had a pretty busy day today... there was a lot going on and we didn't have much downtime at all! We got up at about 8:30 and got ready for our first activity of the day, breakfast.

Kristen came by at 8:57 to collect us for breakfast and then we headed off to Relish. We were lucky enough to score a spot in the parking lot and today I decided to be a little daring and strayed from my usual go-to menu item. I chose the regular French Toast. I know, not a really outside the box order, but I figured it was good to change it up from the Egg Special.

It was good, but maybe not as good as the Egg Special. I think the one thing that made it a little less good was that the syrup was really watery. They need thick syrup.

When we were done, we went across the street to the barley because Kristen wanted to get a Kronut. She got her baked good and then we crossed the street again to visit the thrift shop at the church.

It's such a wild place. It's like stepping into another world in there and it's really something else. We weren't looking for anything in particular, just wanted to browse and see what it was all about.

We stumbled upon a large box of greeting cards and we scanned through to see if there was anything good for the baptism we were attending later. We found one that worked, and then continued to look at some of the amazing birthday cards! We got a bunch and they were well worth it. I really don't think we should ever buy real greeting cards again. We should get these old ones. They were perfect. They were from the 60s or 70s and had the weirdest sayings on them.

We perused the goods and looked around a bit and then we headed off.

Kristen returned us home around 10:45 and we had about a half hour to collect our thoughts and get ready for Owen's Baptism!

I put on one episode of Match Game, we watched, and then got dressed and ready to go. We headed out from the house around 11:30 and we got to the church just a few minutes before 12.

The baptism was pretty short -- Owen was the only one being baptised so that was good -- didn't have to sit through a bunch of randoms!

There's something about the Catholic baptism thing that's so weird. First, basically inducting a baby into a religion is weird. I mean, sure, you're going to bring your child up as the religion you believe, but it's like you're saying the baby, who has no idea what's going on, needs to be inducted to the religion. It's so weird. Especially the part where they exorcise any presence of "the evil one." Then there's the part where everyone is asked to renounce satan. I mean, nobody wants to do the opposite, but being asked to do that is so weird.

Oh, and then there are the oils. They talk so much about "the oils." You don't have me fooled... looked like EVOO to me!

Anyway, it was a good ceremony, everything went well, and lo and behold Owen was accepted by God and allowed to become a Christian.

In that respect, I think that the dedication that some churches do makes much more sense. You dedicate the child to God and the parents make a commitment to raise the child in their religion and it just doesn't put this farcical responsibility onto a baby who has no idea what's going on.

Please note that my commentary has nothing to do with this particular baptism, it's a general feeling about baptisms. I know this is what people do and it was a nice ceremony and I enjoyed it. I just think the practice is a little weird when you step back and look at it.

Immediately following the ceremony, as indicated on the invitation, was a party.

We arrived and said hello to everyone and then we milled around. They had these amazing pretzel circles on the tables as snacks. They were just pretzels in the shape of a circle but I LOVED them... I wish I knew what brand they were... I want more! Lots more!

We wound up sitting at Arianna's table and hung out with her and some of her other friends for the rest of the party. When the food was served, it was all very delicious. I had some mozzarella sticks, a meatball, and chicken parm! We hung out and talked some more back at the table and then we had dessert! The cake was good, and I also got a chocolate chip cookie.

Things were starting to wind down a little around 4:30 and Dan and I decided to hit the road because we had to get home and change to go over to Re's apartment for the evening. We also wanted just a little time at home to relax a bit before heading out again!

We arrived back here around 5:00 and we had time to watch ONE MORE episode of Match Game before leaving for Re's at 6:00.

On the way there, we had to stop at Marshall's but we were quick and then we arrived at 6:30. The gathering was scheduled to start at 7 but Re wanted us to come a little early to help hang one of her new decorations.

Another request was that we go to her neighbor's apartment "by accident!" Her neighbor is always singing Disney songs in the shower (or while waiting for his food to cook in the microwave) and she wants to know who he is. She's never seen him before in all the time she's lived there and she figured we could pretend that we had accidentally gone to the wrong apartment. Dan was all for it, so he gave it a go. Unfortunately, nobody was home so the mission was a failure.

We helped hang the new lion decoration and then at 7:00 on the dot, Jen B and Lisa arrived.

The rest of the night went by pretty quickly and we just hung out and had fun and enjoyed the evening. We talked and played a few games and had a good time.

Dan and I departed at 11:58, just minutes before the stroke of midnight! We were getting pretty tired and have to get up early tomorrow.

Anyway, now we're home, I just got showered up, getting ready for bed and we're off to sleep!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
