"las vegas to phoenix" or "michelle"

Hey Journal!

Well, we had another busy day -- at least the morning and afternoon and now we're settled in at our hotel for the last two nights of our trip. We've actually come full circle and we're back at Home2 just outside of Phoenix, Arizona!

We woke up this morning at 7am in our hotel room at New York, New York in Las Vegas! It was rough because we got to bed late last night and hadn't gotten much sleep the night before, either! We didn't have our suitcases with us, just the clothes we needed for today so it was easy to pack up and get out. We left at 7:30 and we headed to the parking garage.

At the car, we put our stuff in the trunk and then hit the road for Phoenix. We had tickets to see Michelle Obama speaking at the Phoenix Convention Center and they actually moved the time up. It was originally scheduled for 4:00 but got moved to 2! That put is in quite a rush, but we made it work!

On our way to the highway, Google Maps took us past UNLV so we got one last look at the place where all the magic happened the past few days.

We filled up the gas tank at a Costco and then we were on our way. We made good time, there was no traffic on the highway through the desert. Our plan was to stop for breakfast along the way at a Cracker Barrel in Kingman, Arizona but when we got to the exit we realized that they weren't serving lunch yet. I wasn't in the mood for pancakes for some reason, so we changed our plans. As it turns out, that was probably good for our timing.

We wound up getting Sonic and I got the French Toast Sticks.

We made a pit stop at a shell gas station to use the bathroom and then fast forward to our arrival in downtown Phoenix. We arrived at about 12:55 and there was a HUGE line to get into the convention center. Dan dropped me off and I got on the line right away. Then, Dan went to park the car. The line moved slowly at first and then really picked up the pace as we got closer. It snaked around several times so it was hard to tell exactly how much longer we had to go.

Eventually, we got inside and then had to line up to go through security -- conducted by the Secret Service and the TSA! Interesting!

The line behind us was really long. I'm not sure quite how long it was, but it went for a while. At some point, they cut people off because they were letting everyone down the escalators to the security screening area 50 at a time. After we went down, only two more groups came -- which means that all the rest of the people must have been turned away.

If we had stopped for Cracker Barrel we wouldn't have made it AND if Dan hadn't dropped me off we might have JUST missed the cut.

As we got into the big open room -- they were just announcing Michelle! It was perfect timing. We hurried to get in a good position to see the speech. She was great! She spoke for about 40 minutes or so and when she was finished she came around and shook hands around the stage. Lots of people rushed over but Dan and I got really close and took some great pictures!

It was a really cool experience. We've done a lot of firsts this week and it's been really amazing. From all of the hype and excitement on the UNLV campus for the debate, to the debate party, to meeting celebrities, journalists, and weird social phenomenons! It was wild. Then, attending my first ever political rally and being up close with the First Lady of the United States.... it really makes my normal every-day routine seem so much more boring.

While at the rally we spotted Terry Moran from ABC News on the media risers. I tweeted him saying that I saw him with a waving emoji. He looked at his phone right away and then liked my tweet! Thanks, Terry! We also got a photo of ourselves with him directly behind us as he was recording a little piece after the rally ended.

We made our way up the escalators after that and then out the giant door which was really the regular entrance doors all lifted up. It was wild. Can't really describe it!

Before heading back to the car we decided to get lunch and we ate at a restaurant around the corner from the convention center called Tilted Kilt. I got a steak and it was a pretty good meal. Perhaps the most substantial meal I've had on the whole trip so far!

The car was a short walk away so we headed over there after lunch and then we hit the wall.

That concluded our political tour for the week! It's INSANE how much political ally related stuff we've done this week when we had ZERO of this planned. We were completely spontaneous and when we realized how much fun we were having with it all we just kept it up!

We booked our hotel for the rest of the trip -- we're in one place now -- Home 2. So, we came here, got settled in, and then we went down to the hot tub. We hung out there for a while before coming back to the room to shower up.

We watched some TV and just relaxed. We really need it. I am going to sleep late tomorrow. I need to catch up after all this!

Tomorrow we have nothing on the schedule. We'll get up and try to do something fun on our last day in Arizona!

Oh, I skipped a little bit -- after relaxing a little we went out to get some food. We picked up something quick to eat and now we're back here getting ready for bed.

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
