"final day in phoenix"

Hey Journal!

Well, the time has come. It's time to pack it up and head back home. I can't believe our trip is coming to and end but at the same time I am so happy that we had such an excellent and spontaneous trip!

The amount of things we did is unreal! I would never have guessed that we would have not only seen the set of Hey Dude but also been in the background of live broadcasts on MSNBC and CNN, attended a presidential debate party just feet from where the actual debate took place, made a new friend, gotten selfies with Ken Bone, saw/met a few high profile journalists, oh yeah...see the First Lady of the United States of America UP CLOSE, and still have time to explore some of the desert! It was a really amazing experience.

Sometime I think not having a plan can be a little frustrating and a little stressful for a vacation but for any time that's been the case, this trip has more than made up for it. You have to let go and see where life takes you. You can get so much done when you have nothing to do and you can be so many places when you have no place to be!

This morning we got up around 9:00 and headed down to breakfast. I didn't get a waffle because they had a really funky waffle batter. What happened? Why was it good when we stayed here earlier in the week and different all of a sudden today! So weird.

I had cereal and we watched the news while we ate.

We came back to the room and then headed out around 10:00. We decided to go to this park called Papago Park and it has this big rock formation that you can climb and, at the top, there's a big hole in the rock. It's pretty cool and the view from up top is nice!

After the park we went to this mini-golf place called Castles N Coasters. It was a little weird looking a t first -- I mean, you have to enter though this strange Aladdin's castle type building but the mini golf was pretty nice. They have four separate courses and we did Course 3.

We had to rush a big though the round because the sun was beating down on us and it was 94 degrees. I was really afraid of getting a burn.

After that, we went to this nearby mall, walked around, and killed some time. Today's pan was just to relax so we didn't do too much -- just took it easy.

We wound up returning to the mini golf place for a second round later in the evening. Oh, the best part about it was that as AAA members we got buy-one-get-one free! It was great!

This time we played Course 4. It was very much like 3 but had some different obstacles and stuff.

It was about 9:00 after that and we went to get dinner at a place we found online called Charleston's. It was REALLY good. We didn't know anything about it beforehand but I saw it online and thought it looked like a good spot. The food was excellent. I got chicken-fried-chicken and it came with amazing mashed potatoes and carrots. Dan really liked his meal, too! So we ended the week with a really good meal.

Now we're back at the hotel and a little disappointed that they didn't service our room today. We came back and the room was a mess.... they didn't give us clean towels or make the bed. Dan went down to get towels so we could shower and they told him they were short-staffed with housekeepers. Okay... thanks... but.... I did pay for this... so I kinda expect you to clean my room. This is a hotel, after all.

But, we're off to bed now. Our flight is at 6:35am so we need to get to sleep NOW and get up at about 4:15am. Yikes!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
