"joe's birthday surprise" or "mohegan sun"

Hey Journal!

You may have noticed that I've stopped using quotes in my entry titles. That's because I realized something. Way back in the beginning, I would just title my entries without quotes. At some point I started giving them two (or more) titles and that's when I started using the quotes. For the most part, I gave them two titles... but if they only had one, I would still use the quotes which technically makes no sense.

So, what I am going to do is go back to NOT using quotes if I'm only giving it one title. Phew. That makes me feel better.

Anyway, here I am again feeling exhausted! My already abbreviated night's sleep was interrupted at 6:40am by a call from the alarm company at work. I called and nobody answered so I had to get up and go downstairs to start looking at the camera. When I got there, I saw people inside, so I called again and got Nicole at the bar. She said she had just gotten in and didn't know anything about the alarm going off. I spoke to Bill who said he also had just gotten in. He called Greg and Greg said he knew nothing as well. I called the alarm company back again and they said that it was the maintenance building that went off. I called Greg and he said he didn't know about it but then he called me back about 5 minutes later to say that one of his guy's just told him that they had set it off on the way in this morning. UGH!

I finally got back to sleep but then I had to get up again at 8:15 for our trip to Mohegan Sun. We left around 8:45 and stopped at McDonald's for breakfast.

We made good time and didn't hit any traffic on the way. We arrived at 11:30 and parking in the Indian Summer Parking Garage (I think.) We came in and I used the bathroom to put my contacts in and then we went back to the car to drop off my glasses AND to leave my jacket in the car. I know we ALWAYS leave the casino smelling like smoke and I had to dress accordingly!

When we came back in, I had to wash my hands and I saw Kerry and Ryan standing outside the bathroom. I was in a rush so I didn't stop to say hello but I figured they'd be there when we got out. They weren't... but DAn said that he had seen Joe, which kinda ruined the surprise. LAter we found out that he ran into Kerry and Ryan right outside the bathroom and THEN saw us...so he KNEW something was up!

Dan and I did about two laps around the casino trying to find the restaurant...when we finally figured out where it was, we went inside and walked around looking for the party. We didn't see anything so we stood over by the door waiting for Kerry and Ryan to arrive. Just a few seconds before they came in we figured out that the party was in a private room called "The Snug" which was right behind us. When Kerry and Ryan arrived, we realized we were standing right in front of a big sign that said "Happy 30th Birthday, Joe!"

So, we hang out there for about two hours. They were appetizers and then a lunch. I got the french dip...but it was called the Irish Dip, and I got it plain, with no weird stuff on it.

After that everyone sang Happy BIrthday to Joe and then to Kerry whose birthday was yesterday. Around 2:00, we all left the restaurant and went to the "Race Book" because Joe wanted to bed on some horses. He won some money there and then Dan, Kerry, Ryan, and I went to find some other casino things to do. There was some roulette involved, then some three card poker, and finally -- I found my Willy Wonka slot machine. First I came upon version 4, but I was looking for version 2. These versions are totally made up by me. The first one is the one with the actual wheels. I hate that one. The second one is the most amazing slot machine ever. The third one is a low, flat screet. The fourth one is a wide, wrap-around screen.

Anyway, I found V2 right over by Margaritaville -- the same one we played with Linda at her bachelorette party. I played for a while and was up $20 at one point. I got the bonus round two times but BOTH times I got Grandpa Joe free spins. I wanted the chocolate river! Ugh!

Next we found Ryan and Kerry at three card poker. Dan went over there and played a little and we walked away losing $90. Ugh!

At about 5:30, Kerry and Ryan were leaving because they had to catch the ferry back. We decided to hit the road as well since we didn't really know anyone else there and figured it would make sense to head home instead of getting a hotel room and then coming home first thing in the morning.

The ride home started good but we hit some traffic. First, we stopped at a Cumby's to get something to drink because I was thirsty. I got a ginger ale AND this weird milk shake thing. It was this frozen ice cream that you put into a blender and it makes the shake for you. It was good, but I think I would have liked it more if it wasn't "birthday cake" flavored. Unfortunately, they didn't have just plain vanila.

There was a 1 hour and 15 minute delay due to an accident on 95 in Connecticut but we were able to take a detour that I figured out which added only 20 minutes instead.

As we got close to home, we decided to stop for Wendy's. We went to the one in Commack. When we walked in there was this weird woman sitting there with a bunch of Wendy's shopping bags in front of her. Her lips were unreal, and she was wearing this insane glasses! She was sitting there motionless and it was such a weird sight.

We didn't know what to make of her so, of course, I took as many sneaky photos as I could. At one point she finally moved-- she got up and went to the bathroom.

When she got back she sat down and stared off in the same strange way! It was so weird! As we left we noticed that she had put napkins down all over the table and had a magnifying glass out. WHAT THE HECK! She was amazing.

I want to know what her deal was. I want to know her story. We think we found her car, parked directly next to ours, it was like a hoarder-mobile!

We got home around 9:45 and we showered up to wash the stench of smoke away. I threw our clothes into the washing machine as well.

Before bed, we watched one episode of Designated Survivor and then a little Judge Judy!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
