"mammoth hot springs" or "roosevelt lodge"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up bright and early. Maybe a little too early. The place Dan picked out for breakfast didn't open until 7am and it was 6:30.

Personally, I would have liked another hour or two of sleep!

Since the first place was close we went to the Timberline Cafe. It was pretty good! I got the pancakes with bacon and eggs. We are pretty quickly and we were on our way into Yellowstone after that.

We saw a couple of geysers and then went to Artists Paintpots. That was a cool walk. We went through the forest a bit and then came upon lots of steaming and bubbling pits!

This is weird but a lot of what we saw today reminded me of Ellen's Energy Adventure in Disney! It also reminded me a little of Bushwhacked. So weird!

We made our way around the Grand Loop and stopped at Mammoth Hot Springs! It was very cool, we walked the boardwalks there and then made our way to the Mammoth area and checked out the little town. We stopped to put on sunscreen and then we went to the General Store and got some ice cream.

There were elk on the lawn outside so we got some photos and then checked out the Post Office!

After that, we went to Gardiner, Montana. We left the park and had lunch at a place called Rosie's. I got the spaghetti and meatballs!

We checked out the Roosevelt Arch and then headed back into the park. We continued around the loop and stopped at the Roosevelt Lodge. We just pulled in the check it out but then decided to have dinner there. It was about 4:30 and they said there would be about a 50 minute wait.

We hung out on the rocking chairs on the porch and a storm rolled through. It rained pretty hard so it was a good time to be under cover and not out checking out geysers!

The wait was about 20 minutes longer than quoted and I think it was the hostesses fault. She had no idea what she was doing.

Dinner was good! I had the Shepherd's Pie and Dan got ribs.

After we ate we picked up the loop and checked our Tower Falls.

We made our way to Canyon Village and there weren't many stops along the way. We did detour to take a dirt road through the forest to look for wildlife but we didn't see any.

Canyon Village had a nice Visitor Center and we went inside, used the bathroom, and then it was closing at 8:00. We left and took the route to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.

Our first stop along the way was the Brink of the Upper Falls! It was amazing... it was the point where the waterfall just goes over the cliff! Water was rushing by and it was really neat!

Next we went to Artists Point and checked out a great view of the Canyon!

On the way back we stopped at the Canyon Village, walked around, and then hit the road for our hotel.

We left at about 9:00 and it was just starting to get dark. We took Norris-Canyon Road across the park. We made great time and only a few stops.

We connected with Grand Loop and then at 9:20 or so we hit a major major traffic jam. We have no idea what caused it but it went on and on and on! We were at an almost dead stop for over TWO HOURS! I don't even know.

It was the worst! My leg was getting crampy, we were tired and just ready for bed after an already long day!

Then, just before Madison Junction all the traffic cleared and we were moving quickly towards West Yellowstone!

The day was great but we had a really long and unpleasant and mysterious ending.

Now we are back at the hotel and it's time to sleep! Well, after we finish showering up and stuff!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
