"idaho potato museum" or "park ciity, ut"

Hey Journal!

This morning we woke up at about 10:15. Dan had set the alarm for 10:00, and I woke up on my own and figured I'd do some stuff on my phone before the alarm went off. When I picked up my phone, I was shocked it see that it was 10:15 and that the alarm hadn't gone off!

I alerted Dan and he got up and started to get ready. We packed up our stuff and checked out of the Evergreen Motel.

We tried to go to the place we were going to go to breakfast yesterday but when we got there, they said they were no longer serving breakfast. It was 11:05. Instead, we went to McDonald's and had a a quick, cheap meal.

We made our way into Yellowstone again and this time we took a ride down Firehole Canyon Drive. It's one of the only areas in the park where you can swim. We went down to the river but the water was way too cold! I really wish there was some way to enjoy the hot springs.

Anyway, we left the park after that and headed for Salt Lake City. Along the way we planned to stop at the Idaho Potato Museum in Idaho Falls, ID! We made good time getting there and stopped along the way at a military surplus store. It was so weird -- it was this giant building on the side of the highway and something about it intrigued us. We went inside and it was humongous and filled with all kinds of weird things. They had lots of clothes and other semi-normal items but then there were rows and rows of strange things like springs, drill bits, pipes, old machinery, boxes, syringes, bottles, test tubes. Some of the stuff was new and other stuff was obviously used and abused. I don't even know.

Back on the road, we made it to the Idaho Potato Museum and paid $4 each to enter. It was a small little museum with a couple of little exhibits about potatoes. There was one area with a railing that overlooked a basement. In the basement were three stuffed potatoes with projected faces. They told some weird story and then started singing!

As we watched, there was a group of people there with us. When it ended, the woman started talking to us. She asked where we were from and she's from the town where the museum was, Blackfoot, ID.

She was really really nice and she was visiting the museum wit's four of her grandchildren. She told us that she and her husband own land where potatoes are farmed and are purchased by Frito Lay. They also grow wheat. Her husband works at a nearby nuclear plant and also does the farming when he's not at his day job.

Her older grandson works in there moving pipes for watering. He said the pipes are 4 inches wide and some can be 24 feet long. He said they're heavy and it's a lot of work.

They were so nice, and we learned more about potatoes and farming from them than we did from the museum.

Unfortunately, while we were talking to them I got a call from work and had to step away for a few minutes. Then, Dan said goodbye and they went on their way!

We finished up at the museum and then hit the road headed towards Salt Lake City. As we neared the city, I looked up potential places to stay for the night.

After striking out with hotels, I looked on Airbnb and found a great place at a resort. We contacted the owner and then we were all set!

When we got there, we checked in at the front desk (the place is inside a hotel) and headed to our room.

The room is small but has a little kitchen and a king bed. It has a great indoor pool and hot tub which we went in as soon as we arrived. It was supposed to close at 11 but we got in at 10:56 and stayed until about 11:20 or so!

We came back, showered up, and now it's time for bed! We don't have any real plans for tomorrow but we're going to explore Park City and Salt Lake City!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
