"fourth of july" or "fear the owl"

Hey Journal!

Happy 4th of July! It's Independence Day and today Dan and I took it easy, hung out around the house, and just tried to make the most of this, our last day of relaxation and summer fun before heading back to work. On the bright side, we have a short three-day work week!

So, we got up around 9:00 this morning and got ready to go out to breakfast with Kristen! We hadn't seen Kristen in quite some time so we had a lot of catch up on. We filled her in on the details of our trip to YEllowstone and she told us about her trip this weekend to Virginia.

We went to Relish and today, for some reason, I decided to try the French Toast instead of the Egg Special. It was okay, but not so great. I am really getting upset with Relish....their food is just going downhill more and more. :( I love it so much, I want it to be as good as it used to be!

Anyway, after we ate, we came back here and took a walk. It was kinda cool when we started walking but got a lot hotter as we made our way around the neighborhood. We came back and sat in the backyard under the umbrella and we had some Pringles and sipped on the lemonade. It was a very nice, summery moment.

We decided that we have to have a drinking day one weekend soon and then walk to the town of Kings Park. That day last summer was amazing. We DO need to do it again. I just worry that it won't be quite the same! lol

So, after sitting outside for a while (and having to clean the table off because some weird orange stuff was coming off) Kristen headed home to take a nap because she was still tired from her trip.

Dan and I went inside, watched some TV, and then went to Home Depot. We have been having a lot of birds living under our carport. They aren't making nests like the last two years -- we stopped them from doing that with this little spikes. Now they are just perching on one of the beams and sleeping there. It's so irritating. So, at Home Depot we got a plastic owl to keep them away.

Of course, I'm afraid that the birds are going to laugh at the owl and decide to just sit right next to him and shit on his head.

When we got home, we went in the pool. It was nice and relaxing but it was a little chilly. I don't know if it was just that the air was a little chilly and the sun wasn't beating down but I wasn't quite as warm as I would have liked.

After the pool, I showered up and then we attached the owl to the beam by using a bunch of twine. We basically strapped him on because there was no other way to get him to stay! As we were doing it, the birds tried to come in and I held the owl up at them and menaced them. I'm hoping that put the fear of the owl into them!

We've checked several times since and no sign of the birds but I am going to go out one more time before bed to make sure!

We took one last walk around the neighborhood this evening and then we went to 7-11 in Smithtown to get a free chipwich. I had gotten an e-mail that I could get a free one with the 7-11 app and I didn't want to pass that up. We actually tried to go earlier in the day but they didn't have any at the KP 7-11.

So, we got home, watched some more Parenthood, an episode of Judge Judy.... and like that, it's time for bed! There were some really annoying and loud fireworks -- our trashy neighbors were setting off these really LOUD ones that just BANG and it was shaking the entire house. It was so irritating. It seems to have stopped now, though! So we should be able to get to sleep!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
