"arrival in las vegas"

Hey Journal!

Today has been quite a long day but, surprisingly, I'm not as tired as I would expect to be!

We got up at 5:30am to embark on our trip to Las Vegas! We got ready and then my mom came at 6:00 to take us to the airport. We had plenty of time so we weren't rushed at all.

We actually left the house around 6:05 and we made pretty good time getting to JFK. We got a few small patches of traffic but nothing crazy.

We got to the airport and checked in. I already had my boarding pass on my phone but Dan needed to get his printed and we needed to check in one bag.

Going through security was pretty quick but it was a little weird. The lady working there was nutty. She told us to take all electronics and food out of our backpack. So I had a million little things in my tray. I've never done that before... maybe it's new or maybe she's just weird.

We had made four PB&J sandwiches for the plane and they took them aside and tested them with the chemical wand test thing. Strange.

We had about an hour to wait before boarding and we wandered around the airport for a bit.

The flight took off at 9:33 and we had an exit row seat. It was nice to have the extra legroom but annoying that the seat didn't recline!

We flew Virgin America and I really like their planes and the whole experience. The only negative is that they don't serve any snacks during the flight. Only drinks. I got an orange juice.

We landed about 30 minutes early in Las Vegas which was nice! As we were getting off the plane, the weirdest thing happened!

So, we were in the 9th row and, as usual, all the people in the front were getting off first and we were waiting for our row to start going. The people directly across the aisle from us were waiting as well.

Just as our time comes, the people across the aisle in our row start going so I'm waiting for them and this weird guy comes barreling down the aisle and starts pushing ahead of me AND the lady who was trying to get her bag from the overhead thing.

The two people in our row started telling the guy to wait his turn and then he started yelling at the woman in Spanish. The lady looked at him at said..."I don't speak Spanish." They weren't letting him by and neither was I.

He argued for another second and then finally he gave up and started apologizing which was so weird.

So, next we headed to baggage claim and had to wait a while for our stuff to come out. Once we had our bags, we proceeded to the "ride share" area and summoned an Uber!

The driver was nice and he dropped us off right at our hotel, the Elara. We headed inside and got checked in. Our room is on the 12th floor which is actually pretty low since the building has 57 floors!

Our roo is pretty wild! When you walk in, there's a kitchen to the left and then a big table. There's a couch area with a TV and also a projection TV that shows up on the big window shade when it's lowered!

The bedroom is big and has its own little hot tub thing! Wahoo! The bathroom has a little door with the toilet inside and has two sinks and it's all pretty spacious.

We got settled in and then headed out to the strip. We started by walking down toward the MGM. We stopped at the Fat Tuesday in The Miracle Mile to get some frozen drinks and had a quick lunch at Chipotle.

With drinks in hand, we walked down to the MGM to check out that TV focus group thing. Last time we were here we saw The Flash before it premiered! It was cool and they gave us $75! Once we found it, we were disappointed to learn that they no longer give any money! They only give you some shitty coupons to be used at restaurants in their hotel! Boooo! We did not participate.

After that we walked to Mandalay Bay. I've never been that far down the strip but we wanted to see the site of the recent crazy events. You could see clearly where the two broken windows had been covered up and the street across the way was still all blocked off and police were all over. There were all signs up for the concert and it was so weird to know what had happened there just 18 days earlier. We went in the Mandalay Bay and then took the tram back to Excalibur.

We walked through New York, New York and all the hotels on that side. We checked out the garden at the Bellagio and then watched the 5:00 fountain show.

Next we came back to the rook for a bit to relax and then, around 6:30 we went out to get dinner. We walked about 45 minutes to a place off the strip called Blueberry Hill Family Restaurant. It was like a little diner and we found it online. I got the turkey meal and it satisfied my craving for Thanksgiving Anytime!

They had great chicken noodle soup, too!

After eating, we walked all the way back to our hotel and we decided to try out the in-room hot tub! We filled it up which took longer than I realized it would! It was interesting. It wasn't quite as bubbly as I would have liked but it was a fun experience.

Next we showered up and it was just before 10 so we decided to watch Designated Survivor on the big projection screen. I'm glad we watched it because that's one less show we have to watch when we get home but the commercials are killer! We're so spoiled with the TiVo!

Now it's time for bed!! Like I said, it's been a long day! We've been up 3 hours short of 24 hours and I'm surprised I'm not more exhausted! I'm hoping that this busy day will help me get a good night's sleep!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
