"fun with old people" or "youngest member of aarp"

What a crazy experience we had today. Dan and I got up early, at 9:00, and headed off to the library to take a defensive driving course. Now, this was my third time taking it, and the past two times were almost identical. They showed the same videos, said exactly the same thing, and all. This was quite different.

This time we took the AARP program! It's "specifically designed for seniors!" and the library doesn't even let you register unless you are over 55, however Dan and I had some strings pulled, and we got in. (Because it doesn't matter to the insurance company.) It also cost only $14 each.

So, we spent our Saturday as the only two people under 55 in the meeting room at the library. There were some similarities in the course, but all of the videos were about old people, and what happens to your vision, hearing, reflexes, etc, as you age.

It was really something. One thing I noticed is that they kinda make excuses for themselves... like they say, if you notice that you aren't comfortable turning left at a light, just wait until you know it's 100% safe, don't worry about the person honking behind you." Which is true, I mean, I wouldn't want the person to go if it's not safe... and we all know people who beep at you are sometimes idiots who are just in a rush... BUT if you notice that you are consistently getting beeped at for something... Maybe it's time to say, Gee... Maybe IIIII am doing something wrong!

One of the questions we had to answer in the book was, "How have the roads changed since you started driving?" and the old man next to me poked me and said, "Less horses on the road!"

At one point, they asked, "What frustrates you about driving?" and Dan raised his hand and said "Overly cautious drives who cause more problems." Oh man.. that set off the old people. They were not happy with that! The man next to me tapped me and said, "Why don't you raise your hand and say 'Old people' and see what happens!"

So funny.

Anyway, we had a break for lunch, and Dan and I went to Sundried Tomato for pizza.

While we were at the library I had many nostalgic feelings... I remember all of the fun times there.. And there were so many things there that still had my handwriting on them, or signs that I had made that are still up... and it's funny because all the people have changed, but so much has stayed the same... It's also weird because some of what I did is still there, and noone there knows who I am. I just think it's a funny thing.

Anyway, Dan got a new library card while we were there, and he took out some books, and we wanted to get the rest of Season 3 of Six Feet Under, but it was only available in Commack, so we went home quickly, and then off to the Commack Branch to get the DVDs.

We then came back, watched some episodes, then went to Target.

Then Dan went over to get his suitcase from his mom because he's going to Florida tomorrow for work. Then when he got back, we took a drive and dropped off our Netflix movie, and came home and started to watch the end of the movie we had started on like Tuesday night. We had it from Netflix for like 2 months, it was called The Invisible, and when we went to watch it finally, it was all skippy and didn't work right. I looked at it, and it was all scratched, and even had an e-mail address scratched into the back of it! So we had to return it for a replacement.

Anyway, we're gonna watch the rest of the movie now that we have a working copy.. Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
