"canadiens game" or "la cage aux popcorn"

Hey Journal!

Well we had a very fun day today in Montreal! We got up this morning at about 10:00 and took our time getting ready and getting the day started. It was nice to get a long night's sleep since we had a very long day yesterday!

For breakfast we decided to go to Tim Horton's! I got a hot chocolate, a bagel, an egg sandwich with sausage, and we got a box of TimBits to share! We got a mix of chocolate, original, and "anniversaire"! They were all good but the birthday ones were my favorite!

We ate inside at a table by the window and took our time and enjoyed breakfast. Fred told us all about his retirement and pension plans! Of course, that's a long time off, but Fred is planning ahead and was telling us exactly when he can retire and what requirements he has to meet in order to get his full payments!

When we were done with breakfast we headed back to Fred's house and played more of the game Blokus! We played a few games and I actually came close to winning the second game. The only reason I didn't win was because, somehow, I wound up with one less piece than everyone else. I put it on the board at some point and I really have no idea how that happened!

At about 2:30 it was time to head out for the afternoon's events! We walked from Fred's apartment to the subway and then took it downtown to get to the bar. Fred picked out a few bars to go to. The first was a place called Brutopia. It's a cool place and we hung out there for a bit at the bar. Fred had taken Dan and I to this place once before...back in 2012!

Our next stop was a restaurant called the Bier Markt. It was a nice looking place and we sat at the bar there, too. Dan got a flight of beers and we hung out there until it was time to head over for the hockey game!

Fred had gotten tickets to the Rangers/Canadiens game tonight! The game started around 7 and before the game we ate at a place called La Cage. It was located inside the Centre Bell. It was right around the corner from the bar but we had to wait for about 20 minutes to get inside. There was quite a lengthy line. It did move fast considering the type of place it was and how many people were waiting. It was FREEZING outside, though...so I had to bundle up!

There was a vent on the side of the building emitting some hot air and that really kept us warm for a portion of the time in line. As Fred called it..."hot hair!"

When we finally got to the doors the smell of butter was filling the air. I thought it smelled like popcorn but I wasn't quite sure. It was, indeed. As we got in, there was a big popcorn popper with AMAZING FRESH BUTTERY POPCORN! There were baskets next to the machine and no scoopers. People just came over, took a basket and filled it up! It was amazing and I ate SO MUCH POPCORN. They had more machines throughout the restaurant and it wa sa help yourself to as much as you like situation. It was perfection. Meanwhile, it's something that would never fly here. They had no scooper or anything and people just put their hands into the thing and scooped popcorn. Our Department of Health doesn't let us have any fun.

Anyway, we got a table on the lower level and while we were waiting to place our order there was a boxing match on TV. We were all quite interested in it because of the caliber of one of the contestants! He was quality!

For dinner I ordered the chicken breast with mashed potatoes. It was very good. It also came with the top of a hamburger bun as a roll!

We ate quickly because Dan and Fred wanted to be sure to get into the stadium before the national anthems and stuff. When we finished, we entered the stadium through the doos inside the restaurant. Before going to our seats, Fred wanted to look for a new jersey to wear at the game. He found one and purchased it.

Fred had two pairs of two tickets but they were in different places. We all sat next to each other and Fred planned to ask the people who came to the other seats if they would like to switch with him. The other seats were technically SLIGHTLY better seats, although I had no problem at all with our seats!

The game started and it was a fun time. I was glad the stadium wasn't too cold. It was a good temperature and I didn't have to be bundled up all the time. The game was good to watch but, to be totally honest I really didn't pay much attention to it.

We were seated near some other Rangers fans and every time they scored, Dan high-fived the guy in front of us. The Rangers won 5 to 2 and when it was all over we headed back to Fred's!

It was sooo sooo cold out and we had to walk to the subway and then headed back to Papineau and walked about 10 minutes to Fred's! It was so cold I had to put my scarf over my face and ears and head!

Now we're all getting ready for bed. I'm just finishing this up while Dan and Fred discuss some hockey happenings...

It's kinda nice that it's relatively early because it feels like it's after midnight! We're heading to sleep soon and then in the morning we're going to get up early to hit the road. We want to beat the weekend/Easter traffic and make it home at a reasonable time!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
