"triumph day 3: st. john, nb"

Saturday, 7/12/09

We arrived this morning at 8:00 in St. John, NB. I slept until 7:30, but was awakened many times before that by the ships horn. It must have sounded about 50 times! It was crazy! When we went outside, it was SUPER FOGGY!

We went to the buffet for breakfast and I had cereal and some eggs and sausage. After that we came back to the room quickly, got our stuff, and headed off the ship. It was weird leaving from the lobby, I'm so used to going down to like...Deck 0 to get off!

We walked around a little in St. John....It was really foggy and cold, we didn't know what we wanted to do, but we asked around, and we thought the National Park, Fundy National Park, sounded cool. We had to rent a car to get there, but it wasn't so bad cause the cost split 4 ways was less than an excursion! We took the scenic route on the way there, and it took almost 2 hours to get to. We stopped at the information house, and this girl named Jessica told us some good things to go see.

We went to the area called Dickson Falls, and did a little hike through the woods, and walked all around these wooden boardwalks there, and it was a lot of fun, there were lots of cool little waterfalls, and some great views.

We saw lots of big lakes, and it was a really cool park. After Dickson Falls, we went to this hike trail that goes to the beach. We walked around on the beach, saw the tide lines on the side of the rocks, and hung out for a while.

On the way back we went into this little town called Alma, had some food, and then went back through the park, stopped at the information house to go to the bathroom and to thank Jessica for her recommendations! lol

We took the fast way back, and got back in about an hour and fifteen minutes. We had time till we had to be back on the ship, so we walked around St. John, Dan and his mom had a beer at this place with near the pier, and then we headed back.

The first thing we did when we got back on was have some hamburgers and Pizza. We hadn't really eaten lunch, and were soooo hungry!! As we were eating pizza there was this old lady in a wheelchair trying to get past the deck chairs, but it was annoying because the lady pushing the chair wasn't doing anything to move them out of the way first, and she would wheel the old lady into the chairs, and then act all mad like she couldn't figure out why they couldn't get to the other side. but then the lady called out to me for help! She was like, "Sir, can you help us!" So I came over and moved all the chairs for them. She was very happy, and told me what a nice person I was. :)

Then we went up to deck 10 and watched the ship sail away from St. John.

We came back to the room, took a shower, and I took the pictures off my camera, because we had run out of space. Then got ready for dinner and went to check out the sunset, but unfortunately it was too cloudy for that.

Dinner was fun, I had fillet mignon AND the grilled breast of corn fed chicken. I have to admit, the chicken was not as good as on the first night. It wasn't as juicy... but it was still good...just not excellent. lol

After dinner we all walked around, and then went to the "Fun Hop" which for our team, the blue team, was a little disorganized. They only got like 10 really young kids to participate, so noone else really got involved, while the Red team had a real mix, and seemed like they were much better coordinated. But really, what difference does it make! lol

We all wound up in the "Hollywood Dance Club" and we did the line dances and all! Always fun. My mom went up to get water, and the rest of us hung around there, then went to the casino, and then my mom came back, and we sat in the casino bar area listening to the guy play music, and then my mom went to bed, and Me, Dan, and his mom went to get ice cream. While we were sitting there, they started blowing the horn a lot, so we were wondering why. We went out on deck 9, and saw it was sooo sooo foggy! It was insane!

They kept blowing the horn, and I loved it cause I love the horn. We timed it, and it blew every minute and 1/2, and lasted for 6 seconds. So I timed it with my watch, and it was perfect. We were counting down...5-4-3-2-1..HORNNNNNN! (I can't think of a word for this horn sound... like a car is 'beeeeeep.' What is an appropriate sound for a cruise ship horn?)

Then we decided to go to bed, but when we got here, Dan and I decided to go back out and record the horn some more!

We were up on the deck for about 5 minutes, and this kid came across the deck dancing, and he slipped a little, and bumped into one of those yellow cone-like signs that says CAUTION, and then he lost his balance even more and fell sideways into the wall and smacked his head on it! He got up and said something like, "I'm a jerk." and walked away! The guy working on the deck tried to ask him if he was okay, but he was gone so fast. But the rest of the night, we saw him like 3 more random times, and EVERY TIME he was walking along and would rub his head! I hope he really was okay! Cause he was also really drunk.

Anyway after seeing him fall, we were going to bed, and we were waiting for the elevator on the 9th floor when a group of people walked by us, and the girl waved to us and asked us how old we were, and if we wanted to be friends! lol So of course, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to at least hang out for a little while!

(Why do random people always attack us in the elevator lobbys at night and recruit us to be friends on cruises!) haha I'm not complaining, because at least someone is outgoing enough to make friends with us, which is cool... but it's so random that this has happened before in almost the exact same way!

So we hung out for about an hour with our new friends Diane, her sister Sarah, their other recruited friends- Mike, and his brother Andy.

We went to the casino, then to get pizza, sat in the restaurant for about a half hour, talked, ate, and played a game with sugar packets!

It was a fun and random night! I'm glad we went back up there to check out the horn, otherwise we would have been sleeping!

Anyway, it's time for bed, and I am tiiiiiired, and tomorrow is a day at sea!!!

Goodnight. :)
