"one more day in london" or "british airways"

5/30/11 - 10:30am New York
5/30/11 - 3:30pm London

Hey Journal!

Well, yesterday was a LONG day!! We got up at 6:30am London time, and we packed up our suitcases, and got our stuff ready to go. Then we went in and had our breakfast. We paid for our room, and hit the road around 8:00.

We were sad that it was our last day, and we wanted to try to fit in one last hurrah back in London, since that was our favorite part of the trip. We drove toward London and parked the car near a Tube station. Dan didn't want to drive the car to the city, so we figured we could park a little farther out and take the tube in.

We got off at Oxford Circus and walked around. We saw Buckingham Palace (from afar), went to Trafalgar Square, then walked to Parliament, and saw Big Ben! We said our goodbyes to London, and took the train from Westminster to the Westfield in London, and got there around 12:00.

We wanted check out the stores again and possibly buy some clothes before we left. Then we ate lunch at Pizza Express, and then headed back to the tube, and back to our car.

Before leaving the neighborhood there, we packed up the phone we had rented and dropped it in a mailbox to be shipped back! It was nice having a phone in case of emergency or to check e-mail, but it was the WORST phone ever, and I don't think I'd recommend it or use it in the future!

We drove to the airport, and returned the rental car, which was a pretty quick process! A bus took us from there to the main terminal, and we checked in for our flight. We had a couple of hours to kill before our flight, and we had seen these crazy little car things shuttling people to the parking lots, so we went to see what they were all about. They're called the HeathrowPod, and they really look like little pods! They take you from the parking garage, to two separate parking lots. You get in, select your destination, and it backs up, then drives away! They have no drivers, and aren't connected to eachother. They just drive around on their own! We took a ride in one, and LOVED it! It was so much fun! It was like being on an amusement park ride! From what it said inside, it's the first system of its kind, and it looked pretty cool!

So, after the ride in the pod, we waited for our flight. I wasn't looking forward to the return flight AT ALL! First off, it's the end of a vacation, so who's excited about that? You just want to be home already! I figured I would be tired, bored, and the flight would be annoying. Well, we were in for a REALLY pleasant surprise!

This was the first time we had ever flown British Airways. Last year, we took American, and on the way to London, we took America. On the way back, our flight was operated by British Airways, and we got a BRAND NEW (ok...4 month old) plane, and it was NICE! The entertainment system was AMAZING! They had TONS of good movies! So many to choose from, and NEW releases as well as old classic movies, and a ton of new TV shows! I watched an episode of the Middle, and then Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and then started watching the latest Harry Potter movie, but decided to watch Bolt instead!

Dan and I also played games against eachother, and you could listen to music. One of the best things is that it was all on demand, so you could pause, rewind, or fast forward all the content! It was SOOO much better than American Airlines. Oh, and if that wasn't enough... they gave FREE alcohol! Dan had wine with dinner, and I had cranberry/vodka! I was shocked, and I loved it. Best flight ever!

We landed at 8:40 and took a while to get to the gate. Then waiting for the luggage took a while, too! Tons of bags kept coming down, but not ours! (And not a lot of other people's either! The carousel was packed! Finally, we got our stuff, and headed out! We had to take the train home because my mom refused to pick us up. She was afraid she would get lost driving there.

So, we took the Air Train to Jamaica, and then got on the LIRR to Ronkonkoma! What a mess! It was convenient, I guess, but after a long flight, and being up for almost 24 hours, it was just a really hassle! Dragging luggage all over, and it takes so long... the bright lights! Yikes!

Re picked us up at the train station, and Dan and I were soooo hungry! We went to the diner to get some food! I had french toast since I've been bacon, egg, and sausage-d out on this trip!

We got home, and settled in, and got to bed around 1:30! Now we're up and just trying to get back into the swing of things before work tomorrow! Ugh! I'll be back later with another update! Gonna head off to Target now and get some milk and food!

Adios for now. :)
