"stonehenge" or "exeter and torquay"

5/18/12 - 9:49pm Torquay
5/18/12 - 4:49pm New York

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up around 8:00am and got ready for breakfast while listening to the Chris Moyles Show on the tv. Very strange to hear the show when it's really on, and not 5 hours delayed!

We went downstairs and the table was set for breakfast! I had Corn Flakes and Dan had Weetabix! Then we had a full english breakfast, and I had tea with mine. I also had orange juice, apple juice too! The bacon was really good, and so were the eggs and sausage!

When we finished eating, the man and woman whose house it was came in to talk to us for a while. They were talking about their B&B, and how they advertise it, and when they started it. THey had lived in San Diego for 7 years from 2003, but moved back to the UK a couple years ago. Her husband actually stayed a little longer than she did for work, and came back last week!

We talked to them for a while, and then it was time to get on the road, so we went upstairs, packed up our stuff, and hit the road!

It was so nice to have had such a relaxing and refreshing night's sleep and to be totally awake and ready to go for our drive today!

Our first stop was Stonehenge! It only took about 20 minutes to get there. We parked and got our tickets. 7 was the student rate. We saved about $3 between the both of us.

They gave us the audio tour things, and then we headed through a little tunnel that runs under the road, and over to Stonehenge! It was pretty cool to actually see it in person after always seeing pictures of it! It is very weird, and I think it's even crazier that we still don't know exactly what its purpose was, and how they built it! They also got the stones from WALES which is a ridiculous distance away for 5,000 years ago!

As interesting as it was to see Stonehenge was, I think that the bigger excitement for me was seeing all of the Asian tourists there! It was truly amazing. THey were all posing in wild ways! One woman was laying on the grass, another was standing with her hand in the air striking a pose, one woman was standing there opening her jacket as if she was flashing someone, and some were just plain standing there. I got pictures of them all. They were priceless. It was wild!

After we saw all that there was to see at Stonehenge, we hit the road and headed towards Devon. We stopped at Exeter and went to a big outdoor shopping center there, and we got a quick lunch at Boots, just some sandwiches and potato chips.

Then we continued our drive to Torquay. We got checked in at our B&B there called "Villa Marina." It's a pretty nice place, and the people who run it are nice, too... but a little "strict," and by that, I mean that they came in and told us not to put anything but toilet paper in the toilet (not that we would have anyway!) Then, they have noticed EVERYWHERE about rules, for example, in the booklet that was on the bed, it says you can't have any takeout food in the room, and if they find out that you do, they will charge you an "excessive cleaning fee." Or something like that. Also, unlike every other B&B, they have a 1/2 hour window for breakfast, and also take payment as soon as you arrive, rather than after. It's a little odd, but otherwise the place is nice and we are enjoying it so far.

First thing we did was take a little drive down to the next town over called Paignton, and then we came back here and took a walk down to Torquay to look around. Most of the stores and stuff were closed, so we just wandered around along the coast and looked at the water and stuff.

We walked back, and at one point we got a little lost, and a policeman stopped to ask if we needed help. He told us where to go, but it didn't seem to be right, so we went a different way. About 5 mins later, he pulled up again and told us he made a mistake and gave us NEW directions! lol Good thing we didn't listen to him the first time!

So, we got back to here, I took a shower, and now we're gonna get to bed early. Gotta get up for breakfast at about 8, and then we're gonna go a little west, and possible to Dartmoor, which is a big park nearby. Not sure where we will be staying tomorrow night!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
