"disneyland"

Hey Journal!

So, before we came to California we said that we had no interest in going to Disneyland. We said that because we had been there before and we are going to DisneyWorld in a month, so it wasn't really necessary.

However, after walking through the park entrance area the other night we got sucked in by the music playing in the park and we couldn't deny the urge. After Dan won some extra money on TPIR we felt like we could splurge a little on some kinda-overpriced tickets.

We did, however, have a great idea to get a discount. Dan suggested yesterday that instead of buying our tickets at the gate, we should go to Target in the morning and get Disney gift cards, get out 5% RedCard discount, and then use the gift cards at the park!

So, we woke up today earlier than we had set our alarm for this morning and we went down to the front desk at our hotel and asked if we could extend our stay by one night. We figured after a long day at Disneyland we wouldn't want be driving to find a new hotel.

We had a muffin from the little continental breakfast and then headed to Target.

We got our gift cards and also picked up some soup for me to have later on as a snack.

At 9:00 we left here and walked to Disneyland. We bought the tickets and then we had to wait a little while to get in! We spent the whole day there...until about 7:00pm. We got to do all the rides we really wanted to go on. We did Space Mountain, the Haunted Mansion, Pirates, Pinocchio, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Winnie the Pooh, Alice in Wonderland, and Snow White. Well, pretty much everything. I can't really remember the order, now, either... but I did check in on Swarm to almost every ride, so I can check there if I ever want to know!

So, I have a few comments on the day. First off, I LOVE MR. TOAD'S WILD RIDE! We rode it three times and it's just as amazing each time. This is the one attraction that I really feel is missing at WDW and is actually better here than it was when it was at Disney World. It's incredible.

Second, I love that they have a Rescue Rangers themed ride... Gadget's Go Coaster. I loved Rescue Rangers....so this is pretty cool. The only question I have is how many kids actually KNOW who Gadget or the Rescue Rangers are? Probably not many!

The have a Roger Rabbit ride which is pretty cool... and the Haunted Mansion was all changed around for Halloween/Christmas... It was re-themed to Nightmare Before Christmas.... which was a little bit of a disappointment.

Now for some differences between WDW and Disneyland:
-Character Attendants: They don't have them at Disneyland (most of the time) and the characters sort of wander around and the lines to get pictures and meet them are so undefined and confusing! Why would they NOT have attendants? It's a mess!
-Organization: The cast members seem so much less well-trained. For example, at one point Mr. Toad's Wild ride was shut down and the four people working the ride were all inside talking. Meanwhile, guests kept trying to get in, walking down the queue, and then opening the doors, only to be told that the ride had closed. When rides close at WDW, they have cast members right outside to tell people that the ride is closed and stop them from getting on line. It's so weird.

There were a few instances where cast members just didn't seem to have the same level of amazingness that they do in Florida! I don't know what it is.... It's surprising since they are run by the same company, after all!

Anyway, we had a good day there, and we said that this will probably be our last trip to Disneyland because it really doesn't even compare to DIsneyWorld. It was nice to go, and Mr. Toad was a super great things to do... but I'll stick with Florida from now on!

For lunch we went to The Plaza restaurant and got a great chicken meal with mashed potatoes and string beans! I was really happy with that! We used our gift cards for lunch, too... and saved 5%! (Thanks, Target!)

Anyway, when we left Disneyland at 7:00 we walked back to our hotel and then we figured out what we wanted to do for dinner.

We went to Marie Callenders restaurant. I was excited because I LOVE the Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pies that I get FROZEN at Price Club. I ordered the chicken pot pie here and I was really disappointed. I can't believe it, but I prefer the frozen ones! This one had a really weird taste. The pot pie filling was really watery inside and had a funky taste. The chicken tasted like tuna.

Now we're back at the hotel... we got showered up and then watched Sunday's Once Upon a Time. Tomorrow we're going to hit the road and drive to San Francisco. We were going to go to San Diego, but we don't know what we would even do there so we're changing the plans. Maybe we can even go to Alcatraz.

Anyway....I'm super tired now! Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
