"black friday snowglobes"

Hey Journal!

Today was officially BLACK FRIDAY but we didn't participate in the traditional shopping frenzy because really, there was none!

Last night we had looked at the circulars and didn't see any amazing deals or anything we even remotely wanted. Now, that hasn't stopped us in the past.... there's nothing I like more than lining up at 5 or 6am and watching the insanity that ensues when the doors open at a store, but again, most stores were opening their doors on Thanksgiving evening and effectively ruined the anticipation and excitement of the day.

Dan got up around 10:00 today and I slept until about 11. When I got up we watched a little but of the Price is Right and then we headed out to Target. Target in Commack was completely normal today -- nothing out of the ordinary and not at all crowded. We walked around and looked to see if there was any deal we wanted to take advantage of, but there was not.

We had made plans to go to lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings with Re at 1:30 but we were ready earlier and so we decided to head over there right away. We probably got there around 12:45 and we had our lunch. I don't remember the last time we had gone there but I don't think it was TOO long ago... probably sometime over the summer. Well, since then they have changed their menu and I was not very happy!

I was telling Re earlier that I was craving the Parmesan Garlic Chicken Flatbread and, lo and behold, it has been stricken from the menu! I think that restaurants try to identify the things I like and then taken them off their menu. This happens way too often. Cheesecake Factory did it with the Chicken and Biscuits and then later they brought back an unacceptable version of them!

I wound up going with my second favorite options there, instead... the naked tenders.

After we ate we went to Home Depot because Re wanted to get a plunger. While we were there we saw that they were doing their .99 poinsettia sale and we wanted to get some! They were all on a large cart and this woman started wheeling them away just as we were about to take them!

We couldn't figure out if she worked there or if she was trying to buy all of them! We followed her for a while and then eventually Re just decided to take the Honey Badger approach and take one! She did, and then Dan and I followed! What a great deal. I would have gotten more but under the circumstances I'm glad we made off with two!

Next we went to Target in South Setauket! This one was much busier than Commack... there were people everywhere, especially in the electronics section. Our electronics section was completely dead.

We left there around 2:45 because we wanted to get to JCPenney at 3:00 for the snowglobe giveaway! See, several years ago we had stumbled upon these free snowglobes at Penneys and for a few years after that we made it a point to go get them. We wanted to have the full collection! Anyway, last year or the year before, they stopped doing them and we were disappointed. Anyway, each year we joke with Re about how we HAVE to get the snowglobes!

This year there was no mention of it in the JCP circular but I still said something to Re and she sent me a link to a Facebook that a woman had created petitioning for their return! It was the most ridiculous page -- the woman created it and was all gung ho about it and then recently she posted that she was depressed and couldn't stay up to date with snowglobe related things. Someone in the comments posted, "just look at your snowglobe collection and you'll instantly feel better." It was ridiculous.

I was reading all of the comments and I was cracking up -- literally laughing out loud at all the weird things people were saying.

Anyway, Re said that someone had posted on this page that they WERE doing the snowglobes for ONE LAST YEAR. Why they would bring them back this year after not being there for two years only to have this be the last hurrah... I have no idea. Also, there was absolutely no mention of it in the circular! They didn't even promote it! I guess it was truly for those die-hard fans!

We got in and made our way to figure out where they were being distributed. We found them and it looked like they didn't have any left! I'm sure glad we got there when we did. We took a photo of ourselves holding them up and I posted it to the page! I had to. I couldn't help myself!

Later on in the evening I looked back at the page and someone else posted that they had their car repossessed and couldn't make it to Penneys and they were pleading for someone to sell them their snowglobe OR to barter! She would trade a previous year's globe for this one. Oh, but there was more...you had to email back quickly because she doesn't check her email regularly but was planning to check again in the afternoon. Wow!

After we had our snowglobes we left triumphantly. Re went to Kohl's to do serious clothes shopping so we headed home and did some stuff around the house. I washed the tablecloths from thanksgiving and did some other random stuff.

Eventually, we wanted to get out of the house again so we went back to the mall.

We walked around, went to some stores, and then left empty handed. We didn't really go to buy anything, just to see what was going on. Next we went to the outlets in Deer Park and basically did the same thing. We went to American Eagle and then to Old Navy.

They had some good deals at Old Navy and I found a nice shirt I liked and Dan got a shirt for the gym. They were 60% off so that was pretty good.

After that we were going to head back home but my mom was looking for something to do so we met her at the Starbucks in Nesconset and hung out for a while. I got a THC and it was enjoyable! There isn't really much seating in that Starbucks, though.... I had never been there before other than to get a gift card. We had a hard time getting a table and there weren't even many people there! We had to pull an extra chair up to a two person table.

After that we headed home and we wanted to watch a movie before bed. We checked out all of the options on HBO Go and decided to watch Fifty Shades of Grey. I had heard a lot about this movie but didn't really know what to expect.

So far nothing too crazy has happened... we've only watched the beginning and we're going to finish watching tomorrow.

Now we're headed off to bed because we are getting up early to go to breakfast with Taryn tomorrow morning!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
