"random day of fun and adventure"

Hey Journal!

Wow! We had a really long day today! It was packed full of fun and random stuff and we really made the most of this beautiful SAturday!

It actually didn't start out so beautiful -- we woke up at about 8:30 and it was rainy and kinda gross outside. We got dressed and ready and at 9:00, Dan's parents came to pick us up to go out to breakfast. We went to the Professor's Diner and, of course, it was an experience as always. I usually order the old fashioned breakfast but this time I went for the french toast. It was okay but it wasn't the best.

After we ate, we went to Home Depot and Dan's parents helped us pick out the mulch and stuff we needed for our yard. They were going to help us pick out flowers to plant in the front yard under the tree, but they said they hadn't come in yet and that it would be another week or so. We got the much, though...4 bags, and we also bought a ladder and some Miracle Gro which we now have to return... (more on that later.)

We have always said that we needed to get a ladder but we never have gotten one! I think we borrowed a ladder from Dan's dad last year when I wanted to check the gutters and put some caulk in a little hole in the siding. Anyway, while we were there with his truck, we figured that we'd get one. They were having some "ladder clearance" so we didn't want to miss out on a savings!

When we got back home we unloaded the car and then Dan's parents headed home. It was still kinda rainy out so we weren't able to put the mulch down. The sun was trying to come out, but we figured we'd wait until tomorrow.

We went down into the basement to put the ladder away. We decided to keep it in that little closed next to the old, defunct oil tank. While we were down there we took about 10 minutes to rearrange some of the boxes and random stuff down there to make it a little more roomy and presentable. It looks a lot better.

Next, we went outside to sort out our plastic bottles. We wanted to go to Price Club to get some Preen (we ran out) and we figured we'd get rid of the TONS of bottles we've collected. We made separate bags for each type -- plastic, glass, and cans -- and then we loaded them into the car and headed out.

We had almost $10 worth to return! We got our money and then we went to spent it back. We had a bunch of things to get -- we got the Preen and they also had this Miracle Gro which looked easier to use and was much cheaper. So we got that -- and now we have to return the one from Home Depot.

Other things we needed were Ginger Ale, Seltzer, frozen pizzas, and, much to our surprise, PLANTS. I never knew they had such amazing garden stuff. They had so many plants.... hanging baskets, flats, big pots for outside... and they all looked amazing. They were so much nicer than what we had seen at Home Depot and their prices were amazing. We got one set of plants for the front bed and then we also got a hanging basket for the front porch.

When we got home, we put our purchases away and then we watched two episodes of Scandal! The season is getting a lot better. There was a point a few episodes ago where I almost gave up on it but then they turned it around and it's getting interesting again.

After that, it was almost 3:00 and we had plans to meet up with Linda between 3 and 4. Dan and I wanted to return our cable box to Cablevision so we had to take care of that while they were still open. The story behind that is that we got the box when we first moved in but we haven't used it ONCE since we moved in. That means we've wasted $8.43/month for the last 20 months! UGH. Sick. Anyway, we arrived there around 2:50, dropped off the box, and now we don't have to pay for it anymore!

Linda had made her way out this way already and went to Relish to get a gift certificate for Dan's Aunt who just moved nearby. She got her card and then waited there for us to arrive. We didn't have any set plans for the day but figured we would see where the adventure took us. She said she came prepared for anything.

Since she brought their bikes, we figured we'd go over to the Psych Center and see if there was a good spot to ride over there.

The park side wasn't charging admission so we went there and parked. We walked in to the headquarters and checked out some of the strange exhibits. Then we went outside and walked up by the nurses house. We poked around a little and there was one building with a door wide open! We went in. Linda, Camera, and me! Dan and Connor did not. Connor was afraid.

We were only inside for about 2 minutes...just looked around and left. Then we went to the overlook and walked back.

Next, we drove over to the other side and parked in the shadow of 93. I like how that's basically a parking lot even though there's nothing that says it is. People just do it and it's understood!

We walked down towards the power plant and we stopped in that giant open area between that and that weird warehouse building that has big refrigerators in it. Connor and Cameron LOVED riding their bikes around in the big open area and also loved riding their bikes over the random crap that was just laying there. There was a big piece of wood that would tip each time they went over it and then there was a "bridge" over this oddly shaped concrete. Who needs fancy bike trails!

While we were over there, Linda and I poked around in the warehouse and took a look around. There wasn't too much to see but it was interesting.

While we were watching Connor and Cameron ride their bikes in circles, I heard a whistle come from the building we had been near. We looked over and there was a kid standing up in the top of the building at this gaping hole that must have happened recently (like in the past year or so.) Anyway, I just stared at him and then he disappeared back into the building.

About 5 minutes later, he rode his bike past us. Of course, I totally approve of his antics and exploratory nature but from his point of view, I'm surprised he would whistle at a group of adults who were there with kids!

After a while in that area we continued our walk on the Hike & Bike trail. We made our way up to the soccer field and then back to the car.

Linda brought kites and we flew them on the lawn. Such a random scene! We did that for a while and then we headed out to go bowling!

It's so crazy because we did so much today and it feels like this was ages ago already! We went to Commack AMF and we played one game. Cameron was not in the mood for bowling. She said bowling is boring and she wanted nothing to do with it. She just watched us all play instead. Though, to me, that seems more boring! lol

I did okay and got some strikes but I wasn't really on fire. I didn't take a photo of the scores but I think I wound up in the low 130s.

We decided to go to Applebee's for dinner after that so we headed right across the street. There was about a 5 minute wait. Linda and I did the 2 for 20. I love that someone is always interested in the 20 for 20. It's such a great deal. (Of course, mine is always #2 more because I get the steak!)

After dinner we went to the mall and started out in Sears. Connor got his dad a birthday gift -- a Lego Stormtrooper alarm clock!

We walked around the mall and Linda was in search of a new pair of shoes. She's looking for leopard shoes like the ones she currently has but can't find a suitable replacement anywhere.

Our last stop of the day was at Yogurtini! We arrived around 10:00. I was a little sad because they no longer have the graham cracker flavor I used to like but at least they still had my Sea Salt Caramel Pretzel. We hung out there for a while, just had a fun time, and then we were exhausted!

We said goodnight and headed home around 10:45.

I showered up and then Dan and I watched one more episode of Scandal! We're now officially caught up. I was having a little irritation today when watching the flashbacks of when Olivia was stuck in that ridiculous "prison" thing. I HATED this episodes so much and I just want them to move on and never mention it again. Other than that, good episodes.

We're off to bed now! Going to go to breakfast with Julio in the morning!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
