"mulch"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up at 9:00 in preparation for breakfast with Julio at 9:30! We got ready and headed out when Julio arrived at about 9:45.

We went to Relish for breakfast and there was a short 15 minute wait. We hadn't seen Julio since just before Christmas... when I helped him wrap his presents and then we went to see the movie Spectre!

Anyway, we had a good breakfast at Relish. Julio wanted to get the Kingsman but instead of the special pancake, he wanted to get french toast. THey weren't able to accommodate his request so instead he got the french toast and I got the kingsman and shared my bacon and sausage with him.

The kingsman is great but it's soooo much food. I guess that's why I usually get the Egg Special.

After we ate, we went down to the bluff to take a quick walk around and take in the view of Connecticut since it was a pretty nice day out. It was a little chilly this morning and it did warm up a bit in the afternoon, but it never got as nice as it was yesterday.

Yesterday was strange because it started out really cold and windy and then as the day went on it got more and more beautiful. Around 3:00, it was still chilly but by like 5:00 it was really nice!

I was excited because this was the first weekend of the year that I've work short sleeved shirts! Wahoo! I'm ready!

When we got home, Julio came in for a few minutes and then headed out to go see his Uncle. Dan and I got right to work with the mulch outside. Yesterday we had picked up four bags at Home Depot and we quickly realized we needed more!

I was a little skeptical at first but it really did look much better after we put it down. We started by weeding and that didn't take very long. Once we had all of the weeds pulled we spread the mulch in the front bed. It covered a good area but we still needed more. Before heading out to get more, though, we planted our plants from Price Club. The look really nice and I think we have just the right amount. I don't think we need to overdo it... just some plants to give some color/life to the front of the house.

After that we tested out the sprinklers. We went down in the basement and opened the valve and then fired them up for the first watering of the season. It's SO MUCH EASIER with the Rachio! Last year I had to keep running up and down to advance the cycle and it was a real pain in the ass! This year I just used my phone and everything went smoothly! Last year we also had a loose cap on one of the valves and water from one zone was getting into another zone and causing a problem. Luckily this year we had no problems like that.

Once we were done testing out the system we headed back to Home Depot to get more mulch! We went over to the garden center and there was a guy who had already loaded bags onto a cart so we took that and headed for the checkout. They had an "expedited checkout" system in place... a person came down the aisle, scanned our goods, and then gave us a card which held the transaction until we got up to the register. They couldn't have made it any faster -- the only thing slowing things down is people's stupidity when they get up to the register and aren't ready to PAY! I mean, that is what you're waiting in line to do - sooooo....

We also got a closet doorknob for our bedroom so that we could get rid of one more gold knob!

When we got home, we put down the rest of the bags of mulch and then headed inside. I really wanted to clean up the house but Dan felt that he needed to take a break.

Eventually we did get to do some work inside but not everything. We made some progress, though. Dan gave up after a while and then we decided to go to Leslie's because we foundsome coupons that expired today for pool stuff we will need during the season.

We got some Power Powder Plus, some Chlorine tabs, and a bottle of Algae Control which we needed last season. You know, "the whole damn bottle."

After that we came home and we were stopped at a stop sign and this kid was standing on his lawn with a mini-motorcycle. His did was standing there watching him and all of a sudden the kid took off. He went across the lawn and then through a bed of flower and his dad was yelling..."WATCH OUT" over and over in this loud, bellowing voice! The whole time, Dan and stayed stopped at the stop sign fixated on what was going on.

Next, the kid goes down the curb and into the street, father still screaming, and he's headed for a parked van on the other side of the street. The kid steers the other way but skids out and falls in the middle of the street! The kid gets himself up and runs for the grass and the father goes over and heads into the street, presumably to get the bike thing. It was just a wild scene to watch. We were laughing hysterically as we were replaying the whole thing over and over in our heads!

We dropped off the pool stuff and picked up our Bed, Bath, and Beyond coupons and headed over there. We wanted to get a nice tablecloth for the dining room. They didn't have a great selection but we did find one that we liked. I actually found one that I liked more but Dan hated it. It was plaid and perfect.

Next we went to Target, returned some bottles, and then got some frozen goods. Some TV dinners and stuff.

When we got home I did some laundry and then Dan took a shower and I took a shower and we got ready to watch some shows.

We watched an episode of Shark Tank that we had saved from two weeks ago and then we prepared for the Season Premiere of Game of Thrones! I'm excited that it's back -- I actually didn't even realize it was coming back yet so it was a pleasant surprise.

Tonight's episodes was okay... I mean I'm happy it's back but nothing really happened today so I was a little bored.

Anyway, now it's time for bed! Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
