"backyard beautification" or "kings park day"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up around 9:30 and got ready to go out to breakfast with Kristen. She came to pick us up at 10:00 and then we headed to the motherland, Relish.

We didn't realize that today was Kings Park Day so we had to take a slight detour once we got to to the road block! As a result of the festive occasion, Relish was SOOO empty! It was really weird -- there was almost noone there. We had no trouble getting a parking spot and there were so many open tables!

This morning I was feeling hungry so I went for the Kingsmen. I ate a lot of it but I couldn't finish it. I left one pancake, one bacon, one egg, and a bunch of potatoes behind!

After we had eaten, we did what we naturally had to do, walk Main Street and experience Kings Park Day! There wasn't much to see and nothing really going on. I like to say I went, so even though it was a bust, it's something I'd do again next year. I didn't take any free samples though, and that makes me a little sad.

Next we drove to the bluff and sat there for a while enjoying the views of the sound and Connecticut. It's kinda weird -- you can see Connecticut, sometimes very clearly, from the North shore of Long ISland and it doesn't really look that far away but if there were a bridge, it would take over 20 minutes to drive. It's actually close to the same distance as Long Island from the north to south shores!

It was a really nice morning and I'm glad we got to enjoy it!

Kristen dropped us off back at home after that and Dan and I got to work on our backyard. We had a lot of things to get ready in order to prepare for the big Father's Day BBQ tomorrow. We prepared the pool, put in the robot, and we put out the chairs and umbrellas and got everything in order.

We cleaned up a little inside but we still have some more to go. Dan really really avoids cleaning anything inside the house, leaving everything for me, and a bunch of the remaining stuff needs his attention!

We also decided to put the diving board up this year. Last year we left it off because we felt it wasn't necessary but, this year, we felt like it would be nice to have. And, on a side note, it will be nice not to be able to walk into that little electrical box and hurt my leg like I did last year!

There were some weeds in the beds around the pool and Dan picked them and cleaned everything out and then I came through and sprayed some RoundUp on the remaining ones!

Things are looking good!

When we came inside, we took a few minutes to regroup, Dan took a shower and then we went out to Target. After that, we were getting hungry and decided to go to Chipotle for lunch!

There wasn't too long of a line there today which was nice! I got the usual steak and rice bowl and we ate at one of the high top tables.

Next, we decided to go to the outlets to check out that store we had found some nice clothes in last month! Sadly, they didn't have anything we wanted this time around. Last time it was like we hit the motherlode! It was incredible. They still had some nice stuff but nothing I needed to have!

We made a stop in American Eagle and then headed back to the car and towards home. Dan pumped some gas into my car and then we went to TJ Maxx in Kings Park to check out their wares. We were specifically looking for something to decorate our walls. We need more things on the walls at home and we can never find anything we both like!

They didn't have anything good but we did find some American Eagle underwear for really cheap! We both got some...it was a good deal.

We came home, hung out for a while, and then we headed back out. This time we went to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. We were again in search of wall decor but came up empty handed. I did, however, get the watermelon slicer, Slice Right, that I had seen on an infomercial. It seems like it would be really easy and efficient at slicing watermelon! I can't wait to try it out!

On the way back we stopped at the TJ Maxx in Commack to see if they had any good wall decor and/or underwear! They had neither.

We were getting hungry again so we decided to go to Applebee's for dinner. We had a $10 off bonus card and a gift card at home so we swung back, picked it up, and then went back to eat!

We got to Applebee's at about 9:30 and it was really really empty for a Saturday night. Nobody was there.... we were one of only a few tables in the restaurant. We thought that was a little strange but then, at 10:00, it got PACKED. We realized that it was the half price appetizers and drinks drawing people in!

Our waitress was very friendly and peppy. We did the two-for-twenty(three) and I for the sirloin. I got fries and mashed potatoes and I always forget that I'm not really a fan of their mashed potatoes.

After dinner, we went to ShopRite again in search of Ecto Cooler. Of course, they didn't have it and we left empty handed. It's crazy that no stores around here are carrying it. It's not even like they had it and it sold out. They just don't have it at all!

Anyway, now it's time for bed! Tomorrow is our big Father's Day BBQ and we need to get up early to finish getting ready. Seriously... Getting ready for one day of having people over is a two week process. This is why we don't do it more often!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
