"kitchen cabaret"

Hey Journal!

Today was a pretty unusual day! Mike came over at 7:30 to work on our kitchen cabinets and, I thought, to put in our new attic fan. I woke up at 7:15 and got ready for his arrival. He was parked outside when I woke up but he didn't come in until about 7:35.

First thing, they started taking down the old pantry. I watched pretty much the whole day's activities because I think it's pretty interesting to see how this stuff is done. Once the main part of the pantry was taken down, they had to use a saw to cut a couple of pieces of wood. It was a little electrical saw that did the work really quickly. The only problem was that it created an incredible amount of dust! I didn't expect it and it only lasted about two minutes or so but in that time EVERYTHING in the kitchen, dining room, and family room was covered in dust.

I put up a little curtain to keep any more dust from getting into the family room but by the time I did that it was too late and they didn't make any more dust the rest of the day.

I did a little work on the computer because I had some things that needed to get done today. I got a few calls for the church plots and one call from a really strange and irate man. He was flipping out because he said he sent a check that was never cashed. I told him that if the check was not cashed then it was not received here. He insisted that COULDN'T be the case because the check was never returned to him. The guy was going crazy and yelling and screaming. I told him I would have Karen get in touch with him and I took his phone number.

I tried to call Karen and she wasn't around and then 15 minutes later he called again asking to know why Karen hadn't called him yet. You can't make this shit up. Then, Karen called me back shortly after and we both called the guy back together. We got him on the phone and he was like a completely different person. He was nice, friendly, and totally normal. If I hadn't been on the call I would never have believed it.

Anyway, after that I had a call with Steve to go over some lawyer stuff and then Mike and his guy went to Home Depot to get some supplies they needed to continue the job.

I used this opportunity to clean up a little. I vacuumed out the hole in the floor under the old cabinet so it would be nice and clean when they cover it up.

They were gone for a while -- longer than I expected. When they got back they put up new sheetrock to cover the back of the old cabinet and he installed a little panel that will provide access to some wiring that had been suspended inside the walls.

They moved the fridge into place and then worked on the moulding around new ceiling area. Mike was going to make a new pantry but after assessing everything he suggested that it might make more sense to have his custom cabinet guy make one instead. He said this because the doors he had gotten in home depot were a standard size and the right match for this size cabinet. He said he could still do it but it wouldn't look as nice and, for $200 more, I decided to take his advice and order the custom cabinet.

He said that will be ready next week and he'll come to put it into place.

They got all their stuff together and headed out around 2:00. The house was a disaster from the dust. I spent a little while cleaning up before heading off to work.

I got to work around 3:30 and the first things i had to do was install a new expansion module for our phone system. There was a problem with the port for Jackie's phone on the old expansion module and the only option to fix it was to replace it with this part. I wasn't really sure how to do this but it turned out to be easy! I was also worried because I had ordered model 3.1 and they sent me 4.1 my mistake. I did some reading online and found that they are basically the same with a few minor upgrades and I was confident that it would work the same way. It did, phew!

I did a few other things at work -- the new place cards for the restaurant came in and they were completely the wrong size. It was ridiculous. They were tiny! I had to call them and have them redo them! Ugh!

It was a boring time in the office -- I was all by myself because Dan's dad had come in but left to go fishing by the time I had gotten there.

On my way home I stopped at Target and I got a new microfiber floor mop. When I got home I mopped the floor and thought that this new mop was really great. Sadly, later on I was disappointed because there was still a lot of white power on the floor from this morning's craziness.

I had black socks on and every time I would walk around the house they would get a thick layer of white dust on the bottom in the exact shape of my foot. It was terrible. I had to mop the floor AGAIN and clean EVERY surface and thing.

I didn't even know where to start but eventually I cleaned off one area and then started cleaning things and putting them in that area until I had another area cleared and ready to be cleaned. It was really a stressful situation. I'm not even fully done now but I will have to pick it up tomorrow.

At 8:00 I went on a nice bike ride around the neighborhood. When I got home I mopped again because there was STILL more white powder around. I am getting really sick of this, but I have to get rid of this crap!

Eventually I showered up and then had a TV dinner. I had ordered a grilled cheese when I got to work but that was all I ate all day! I was starting to get a headache from being so huungry!

I watched some Judge Judy before bed and now it's time for sleep. Mike is coming back in the morning to do more work so I have to be up at 7:30 again!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
