"a trip to cold spring"

Hey Journal!

Today was all about our trip up to Cold Spring. I set my alarm last night for 9:00am and as soon as I got up I had to start getting ready to go.

But, before I get into that, I just remembered a couple of things I needed to mention. First, I tried out those little dry-mouth tablets that Dan's mom had told me about last week and I had purchased last night. I was originally afraid of how they were going to stick inside my mouth and what it was going to feel like. That was no problem at all. It has some sticky stuff that makes it stay on the side of your mouth and it all slowly dissolves overnight.

I was unfortunately woken up at 4:45 in the morning by a phone call. I was so confused as to what was happening and I looked to see who it was. It was from an unknown number but I had to answer to see what was going on. It was the central station for our alarm at the maintenance building at work. Ugh! I got off the phone with them and then called Dan's dad who was equally as startled by my call as I was by the original call! I think it was just someone at maintenance who set it off by accident but I never did find out for sure. Will have to get on that tomorrow.

So, while I was up, I went to the bathroom and, sadly, I get up almost every night to go to the bathroom. Before I go back to bed I usually have to get a drink of water because my mouth is so dry but LAST NIGHT -- I did not! I still had a little bit of that tablet in my mouth and my throat felt good! I'm excited that this may be a real solution!

Now, back to 9am when my alarm went off. I layed in bed for a while, then got up and got ready. I had picked out my clothes last night so I just put them on and then called Dan because he was getting ready for bed! Crazy Japanese time difference...

My mom arrived with my Grandparents at 9:45 and I came outside, we loaded up the car, and off we went! We stopped quickly to get some gas in my car and then we hit the road. It was a pretty good trip and we didn't really hit any traffic on the way there.

We got to Aunt Chickie's house around 11:45 and we went inside to spend some time up there before heading to the wake. Oh, I forgot to mention - that's why we went up there today. Josie, who has always lived across the street from Aunt Chickie, had passed away. I knew of her, and I'm sure I met her several times, but I never REALLY knew her. You know what the weirdest thing was -- I didn't even realize this -- she has the EXACT same REAL name as Aunt Chickie. I wonder if that was confusing for the mailman. They literally live across the street from eachother and have the same name. Come to think of it, that could be confusing for a lot of things.

Anyway, we hung out and talked to Aunt Chickie for the time before the wake and Melissa had left Matthew there while she went to a bridal shower. He was tired and kinda upset that his mom had left so I tried to keep him happy. I played with his Zebra toy AND gave him the magic chair ride which used to be so popular with evelyn! He's a lot lighter than she was when I did it for her, so I could do it for longer before getting tired!

Aunt Chickie left for the wake at 1:30 and she had to be there early -- before everyone else. We stayed at her house until about 1:55 when and then headed there, too.

The funeral home was right around the corner and it took us about 5 minutes to get there -- if even. We had to find a parking spot on the street and then we made our way inside. There was a long line to go up to the casket -- the longest I've ever seen at an older person's wake. n general this place was really crowded. It's most likely because she and Aunt Chickie are the co-mayors of the town (and possibly all surrounding towns!)

We stayed there for about 45 minutes and then it was time to leave.

I was really hungry since I didn't eat much all day long. We made our way over to a nearby Cracker Barrel and I couldn't wait! I was really really torn between the Momma's Breakfast and the Chicken and Dumplings. I love both and I couldn't make up my mind.

My Grandma suggested that I get BOTH and take one home for dinner. I actually think that was a great idea!

When we sat down, my Grandma began by ordering "lemon with water" which confused me a bit! lol

I had the Momma's breakfast with turkey sausage and pancakes while we were at the restaurant and before we left I ordered the C&D to go! I was so excited!

Before we left we went to the bathroom and, on the way out, we spotted this wild pelican thing that I really liked. My Grandma didn't hear me say that I liked it but she spotted it too and asked if I wanted it! I did, and she bought it for me! Yessss! When we got home I put it above our fireplace and I can't wait to see if Dan notices it and wonders where it came from!

We left Cracker Barrel at 5:00 and headed for home. There was lots of rain on the way but it took us only 2 hours and 10 minutes to get home. The only traffic we hit was 10 minutes because of a broken down car. It wasn't an accident, but the road was backed up for a while. As we approached we could see a car just stopped in the road and the people standing around near it.

After we passed that, it was smooth sailing the rest of the way!

As we were crossing the Throgs Neck, we got a call from Dan and we spoke to him go for a bit. He was just getting up and getting his day started.

Later on, as we were on the expressway, I got a text from the bank saying that our credit card had been declined when he went to use it at a Starbucks. I thought that was stupid because it approved transactions at a hotel and a bunch of other random places but then a Starbucks, possibly the most American of them all, it gets declined!

Anyway, I verified the transactions and the card was reactivated. Phew!

We got home and I watched some TV, did some laundry, and then washed our bed sheets. I wanted to freshen them up. It was a lot of laundry to do in a short time. I had THREE loads! The comforter, the mattress pad, and then all the sheets. I finished them up just in time for bed, though.

I showered up at some point in there and then I watched a game of Press Your Luck on Buzzr. It was an episode where this guy won SO MUCH money on a single game. It was amazing. I recorded part of it to show Dan but sadly I missed the beginning.

Before bed I watched Judge Judy and reheated my Cracker Barrel for dinner. It was excellent! I'm so happy I got the dinner to go!

Now it's time for bed! A little later than I would have liked but not bad for all that I got done!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
