"the wedge" or "brian and dan taxi service, will work for soft pretzels"

Hey Journal!

This morning we woke up around 10:00 and watched some TV shows. We fit in some Shameless and Teen Wolf.

While I was watching Teen Wolf I was incredibly uncomfortable and couldn't get my pillow to hold up my head in a comfortable position. This has been an ongoing problem so as soon as the show was over we wanted to get out of the house and we decided that our first stop would be Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Dan suggested that we look for a wedge pillow there.

Indeed, they had only ONE item that seemed like it would be big enough to accomplish what I was looking for. I search other stores online and couldn't find anything, so we bought this one.

Next, we went to Lowes because we had a 10% off coupon. We didn't have anything in mind and we didn't find anything we needed, either!

We left there empty handed and before we came home we went to the mall. We did a lap around and we were saddened to find that the eye candy numbers were way lower today than yesterday.

Dan got a shirt in Forever 21 and then we headed back home. As soon as we go home, Dan went to the gym and I did some things around the house. I took a shower, and then we watched a little more TV.

At 6:50, we went over to pick up Kristen and we had dinner plans to go to Old Street at 7:00 to see Norm. Now, the following story doesn't need any background but just an FYI -- a few years ago we were going to Old Street frequently and then we had a problem with one of the hostesses. I don't even remember what she did, but it pissed us off and we didn't go for a while.

It's a shame because it's actually a nice place inside and I like it in theory. The only problem we seem to keep having is with the hostesses.

So, today we arrive at 7:00 and everything's pretty crowded. We want to sit in the bar area because we want to hear Norm. There are SEVERAL open tables and booths but they tell us there will be a wait of 20-25 minutes. So, that's not a big deal and we decide to wait.

I'm really going to try to summarize as best I can, but I want to say that I would have been very understanding if other people were waiting before us and we had to wait our turn AND if they were actually seating people. The problem was that there were so many open tables and they never sat anyone else.

After waiting for a long time, they eventually sat the empty tables in the bar area one at a time about 5 minutes apart from eachother. It made no sense. There were also open tables in the dining room being sat very inefficiently.

We waited about 30 minutes and the entire time we waited there was one booth that remained open the whole time. Never sat. We just started at it. Now, we were there to see Norm and would have loved to sit and listen to him while we waited for our food. We stood there 30 minutes, and at most we probably would have saat for a total of 45 minutes, so we could have been wrapping things up if they had just sat us when we had arrived.

Anyway, we kept hearing the hostess girls talking to eachother and it was clear from what they were saying that they weren't very good at what they were doing. Like, they were trying to figure out things, figure out where to seat people, and it was so weird.

Finally, once we were the ONLY ones still waiting, and at this point I'm not sure that people who came after us hadn't already gotten seated, she told us we'd get the NEXT available table. We looked over and EVERYONE was sitting with the menus except one table. Nobody had even ordered yet -- and let's not forget... that ONE BOOTH WAS STILL EMPTY!

We decided at this point that waiting was no longer an option for two reasons. One, because it would have been another half hour or so and Two, because that kind of shitty service doesn't deserve our money.

So, we politely told them we weren't going to wait and left.

Meanwhile, I have this feeling that they were trying to save that booth for a larger party. Like, they would have rathered sit at least four people there and not three. The problem is, it was empty the whole time. So, even if a table of four came in after we left, they would have been happy to have waited 15 minutes and we would have been done if we had sat when we got in. AND, now, their two tables of 3 and hypothetical 4 just became one table of hypothetical 4. So, they say, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush!

AND, now we're done with that place. We can't go back in good conscience.

So, now restaurantless, we decided to go to Applebee's. They had tables available as soon as we walked in so it was easy and no hassle! Dan and I did the two for 20 (so we spent even less! Because what I usually get at Old Street is about 17 and Dan's is usually like 15ish!)

Kristen got a drink and we had our dinner and enjoyed that at least some people know how to run a restaurant.

When we were done, we went to Target to check out the day's goods. Kristen wanted to take advantage of the Buy $100, get $50 off deal. After finding a few items that she wanted she quickly realized that she was closer to $150, so if she spent just $50 more, she would be able to get approximately $200 worth of merchandise for $100!

You wouldn't think it would be this hard but it took a while to find $50 more of merchandise to get the deal! We spent a while perusing all of the Christmas decor and then we headed for the checkout. We went to the self-checkout and for some reason one of the items wasn't coming up as belonging to the special. It was, but it wasn't registering, so they sent us to customer service. They gave Kristen a $50 bill which was even better because she had put the charge on her Target card and so now, at the very least, she made $2.50 extra from the deal!

After that, we dropped Kristen back off at home. It was about 10:30. Linda was at Meghan (who used to work at the golf course)'s wedding. We had talked earlier in the day about Uber and she was planning to take an Uber home for about $70.00. I figured the wedding would be over around 11:30 so I offered to come and pick her up.

Dan and I arrived around 11:05. It was at the Bourne Mansion which I had never even heard of before! The entrance was kinda weird and we saw deer on the lawn. (They also have a TON of deer warning signs!) They don't have a very good setup for traffic flow -- there were cars everywhere trying to maneuver around eachother.

We actually wound up parked alongside the flower delivery van which was a good spot to see who was coming and going. They had a soft pretzel station set up as everyone was leaving so I texted Linda to make sure she got one for me! (Got to pay the driver somehow!)

She got me and Dan each a pretzel and then we drove her and Dan home! They said they had a very good time at the wedding and that it was a lot of fun.

After we dropped them off, Dan and I went to Sonic on the way home. We each got an Orange slush but they tasted strangely different tonight. They had a hint of Sprite in them and I actually REALLY liked it! I wonder what happened -- and how I can get them like this again in the future!

When we got home we watched an episode of Shameless and now we're off to bed!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
