"welcome to long island" or "ufc at millers"

Hey Journal!

This morning Dan and I got up around 9:30 and got ready for Kristen to come collect us for breakfast at Relish! She came a little after 10:00 and we headed off to the motherland.

When we arrived, we were a little surprised that there was a 20-30 minute wait. It's usually not that busy on a Saturday and also, the parking lot had some empty spots. We waited patiently. I got the egg special and Dan got the Kingsman... we split the pancakes between us. They weren't as good as I was expecting them to be -- they were a little dry and weird.

We caught up with Kristen who we hadn't seen since last weekend and then, when we were done eating, we went to Target. Kristen was a big fan of the tinsel llama with leg warmers that we had on our porch so she wanted to see if she could claim one as her own. We went to the Central Islip Target since we knew they wouldn't have any in Commack.

Sure enough, they had one left and she was lucky enough to snag it! When we first got there, Dan had to go to the bathroom so we killed some time in the Dollar Spot while we waited. After a while we were starting to wonder what was taking him so long. He called me and said that he was looking for us -- so it turns out that, somehow, he managed to walk right past us without seeing us!

Dan and I got a cool wooly mammoth Christmas ornament while we were there as well as a nice pine scented candle!

After Target we decided to go to Price Club but we took a slight detour to check out new Long Island Welcome Center on the expressway. In one of the fastest construction projects I've ever seen, this building popped up over only a couple months' time and is now fully operational! We pass it every day on the way home from work so we really wanted to stop in ad check it out.

Along the way, we passed Sonic and decided that we needed some slushes! Dan and I got Orange and Kristen got strawberry!

We made our way to the Welcome Center and checked it out. It was cool, nice, and brand new. I think they did a really good job on it but there's only one problem. That problem is that after all the hype dies down, nobody is going to go there. Right now, all of the locals who pass it every day are stopping by to check it out and see what this new building is all about. Once the novelty wears off the only people who are going to stop there are people who have a bathroom emergency of their way home from work!

If you're a tourist coming out to Long Island, you already know where you're headed before you make it out to exit 53 on the expressway! It's ridiculous! It's not like people just stumble out to the middle of Long Island from the city, or New Jersey, or Connecticut and then say "what should we do today?!" It may be a really nice, modern building but it's a complete waste of taxpayer money. That, and the signs all over every highway proclaiming how great NY Food is. Ridiculous!

Next we headed over to Price Club because Kristen wanted to get some bottled water. Dan and I got some goods as well. We got cranberry juice, garbage bags, and a couple of other items that I can't remember right now!

After that, Kristen dropped us off at home and we brought all of our stuff inside.

It was about 2:00 and we watched the rest of last night's Shark Tank. We only made it halfway through last night before I just couldn't keep my eyes open anymore!

After that I watched some random stuff and then Dan went to the gym. When he got back from the gym he showered up and we got ready to go out to dinner with Joe and his girlfriend.

We met at Miller's Ale house at 7 and there was a little bit of a wait. We were number 16 and had to wait for our number to show up on the little screen. After we were seated, we had some drinks and I decided to get the sirloin instead of the chicken parm that I usually have.

It was okay -- not the best steak I've ever had. It was a little chewy and, as Joe pointed out, the lines on the steak looked like they were just painted on!

It was a little busy at Miller's tonight because they had a UFC fight on. We watched a few of the rounds and there was some pretty disturbing stuff! One of the most crazy things was when a guy got kneed in the head and then started bleeding everywhere! All over the mat. They called that fight and the guy who did the kneeing won! We had stumbled upon a UFC fight one time when we went to Brownstone a while ago, I remember.

It was entertaining to watch but also a little scary that something like this is even a THING. Like, who really wants to see this!? I watched it because it was on but it's ridiculous.

Anyway, we hung out there until 11:15 and we were all ready to get going.

When headed home and now we're just getting ready for bed.

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
