day 3: grand turk

Hey Journal!

This morning we woke up at 8:30 and had breakfast delivered to our stateroom. I had cereal and then we got dressed and headed to Deck 0 to get off the ship at Grand Turk!

We didn't have anything planned but we knew we were going to walk around the port and see what was going on. We took a walk on the little beach they have by the dock and then we went to Margaritaville. They have a really big pool, and we also realized we had forgotten to bring any money, so we headed back to the ship to get our bathing suits and credit card.

Dan went to the room and I went to the buffet. I was feeling a little hungry so I grabbed some French toast and hash browns. They had just shut the buffet down so I scavenged some things from under the little shades they put down.

We were pretty quick and then we got back off the boat and headed for Margaritaville. The drinks there weren't the best, but we got one and hung out in the pool for a while. The sun was shining and it was really hot out so that was nice. I was sure to put on lots and lots of sunscreen!

We had to be back on the boat by 1:30 but we got on around 12:30. We went up to see if there was a line for the "SkyDrive" area which are these pedal-driven vehicles suspended up in the air that go around the ship. There was no line at all so we really lucked out! I wasn't expecting it to be so cool but it turned out to be. It was really fun.

I took a few videos while we did it and one of Dan's favorite members of the entertainment staff, Connor from Arizona, helped strap him into his harness.

Next, we went to get lunch. We wanted to go to the Mongolian Wok thing but we didn't know where it was. We figured it out and headed up -- it's in a restaurant now. We sat next to two people and struck up a conversation. They were Nicole and Philip from California. Philip talked a lot about being Greek and his trips to Greece. He also had a lot of recommendations for cooking Greek things. He also made sure we knew the correct way to pronounce Gyro! We talked to them for a while while we waited for our food to arrive and they were very fun. Eventually, they left to go take a nap. Philip couldn't wait any longer so Nicole had to take the rest of her noodles with her back to the room!

After that Dan sat out and read a book and I did some laps around the ship. At some point, somebody threw up in the main pool so I watched them close it off and then pour some chemicals into it. Eventually they drained the whole thing. There were all chunks floating around! Party foul!

The boat left the dock around 2:00 and we watched it sail away. We were parked next to the Carnival Sunshine and I waved to some of the people over there as we left.

Around 5:00 we went in the hot tub in the back of the ship. We watched the sun set from there and at first the tub was pretty packed but little by little people kept leaving. There was one bitchy woman who got in and demanded that everyone rearrange themselves in the hot tub but after that she wasn't so bad.

Eventually, Dan and I were the only ones left and we hung out there for a while longer. We came back to the room around 6:30 and then we showers Sup? And got ready for dinner.

We wanted to go to the lobby and get a drink before dinner but when we got there there wasn't anything really going on there. We did some laps around the ship but couldn't find anything with any good people watching opportunities.

Eventually, around 8:15, we went to dinner. They gave us a table of our own tonight which was okay. I like sometimes not feeling like we have to be "on" and, compared to yesterday, our meal went so much quicker! The only downside was that our table was all the way in the corner of the restaurant! We were so secluded. The lady who sat us said we had a "nice, private table." Code for the worst table in the room!

Tonight I had the Beef and Barley soup and the Short Ribs. They were very good. I finished off with the melting cake, as usual!

After dinner we did more laps around the ship looking for a place to stop and get a drink but nothing was hitting us! It's crazy -- we wanted to drink and couldn't pick a place, so we just walked around instead.

We saw our friends from the hot tub last night a few times in passing throughout the night.

Then, on our way back just a few minutes ago, we got into an elevator with a woman and man (I think it was her husband.) They looked about 60 and the man looked like one of the Beverly Hillbillies! We literally got in the elevator and a second later she said, "I saw you guys walking on Deck 11 before." We said, "Oh yeah, we were just doing laps around the ship!"

She then followed up immediately with, "So how long have you been together? Married or what?" It was so random because -- I appreciate that she and her Hillbilly husband are so accepting and open but it's also an assumption because it's not like we had talked to her for a while and she felt confident that she knew the situation -- I don't know what made her so certain. Anyway, she was a nice lady. She told us her friends had been together 27 years and just got married recently. Then we got out of the elevator!

Now we're back to the room and ready for bed! Headed for day three, Valentine's Day, La Romana! Dominican Republic.

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
