"fun day at sea" or "meeting new people"

Hey Journal!

Well, today was a day full of meeting new people. It was kinda wild. We got up this morning around 9:45 and got ready to go up to the lido deck to get some breakfast.

I had eggs, French toast, cereal and sausage. We ate at one of the high-top tables and when we were finished we came back to the room and decided to go in the hot tub.

We first went to the Serenity area but both of the hot tubs up there were jam packed. We waited a while but it didn't get any better so we decided to go to the back of the ship. It looked crowded there, too so we took a walk around the ship and then wound up back in the same predicament a little while later.

At about 12:30, we decided to go in the back hot tubs even though they were pretty crowded and had a few kids in them.

MOst of the kids in the hot tub were well behaved except for this one girl who kept splashing and jumping around like a lunatic. Like, she had no supervision at all and was an absolute pain in the ass.

Slowly but surely, the tide turned, however, and more and more adults came in as the kids left.

There was one group of kids that stayed almost the whole time but they were SO well behaved. Dan and I were commenting on how great they were. Every time they did anything remotely not hot-tube appropriate, their dad would remind the and they were just so great.

Eventually, the father started talking to us. I don't think we ever got his name but the son's name was Will. We talked about a bunch of random stuff, and the kids were so nice, too. At some point, Dan mentioned how well behaved they were compared to the other kids and the guy said, "there are no bad dogs, just bad owners." His kids guessed how old we were and also where we were from. They were just a really nice family. They were from Wisconsin.

Then, these two girls got in the hot tub and the guy started talking to them, too. Same thing - we all guessed where they were from and eventually we guessed their ages, too!

They were from Alabama and New York. Brittany was from Brooklyn and Allison was from Alabama. We talked to them on and off with the guy, and then later on we started talking to them some more. They are both lawyers and they met in 2013. They work in appeals and Allison works with people who are on death row trying to either appeal their original cases or work to get them better conditions in prison. Brittany works for a foundation in NY that does public defender work for the city. She does almost the same thing, just not for people on death row. Anyway, they were really nice and we talked to them for a while.

All four of us got out of the hot tub around 2:30 and Dan and I went looking for food.

Of course, all of the lunch stopped being served at 2:30 so we just missed it all! The only thing open was the hamburger station so we got that and then headed back to the room for a bit.

We got changed and then went to the casino. Dan played three card poker and started with $100. He lost a bunch but then came back and left with $100. While he was doing that I played some weird slot machine that had some lady with big boobs on it. The only reason I chose it was that it was the farthest from the center of the room and smelled least like smoke in that area!

I started with $10 but hit some big combination and wound up leaving with almost $40!

Dan and I met in the lobby at 4:45 and we walked around the ship.

We had a grilled cheese sandwich and then we headed back to the room around 6:30 to get ready to go in the hot tub again.

We wanted to check out the Havana area in the back of the ship. It's got two more hot tubs but it's only available after 7pm. So, right at 7, we headed over.

It was nice and COMPLETELY empty. Dan and I were the only ones in the hot tub. The only ones in the area at all! I liked it but the only thing that confused me was that there were no seats in the hot tub. IF you sat, you were basically on the floor and almost drowning in bubbles. It made no sense. The tubs were really big, too... so I don't really get it.

We headed back to the room around 7:45 and prepared for dinner! We showered up and then we got dressed for formal night!

Before we headed to the restaurant we did another lap around the ship and then went to get checked in for dinner. They asked us if we wanted to sit alone or with other people and we elected to sit with ransoms.

So, we arrived at the table and we met 4 of our table mates. They were two older people - Terry and possibly Cindy and two younger people, Ben and Tony. Tony was their son, and we're not really sure who Ben was. They were from Ohio.

They were very nice. Shortly after, they delivered two more people to our table.... I don't remember the woman's name, but the man's name was Frank.

They were all very nice and we had a good time talking during dinner.

The woman told us a wild story -- they had gotten here to the cruise terminal and given their luggage to the porter and then, hours later, they got a call that their luggage was found at the departure area of the Miami airport! They have NO idea how it got there. They had several bags and the others made it on the ship and this one bag somehow got separated and mysteriously travelled all the way to the airport. (They had even flown in two days earlier -- and had the luggage with them, so it didn't get left there.)

Anyway, after a lot of confusion, Carnival had the luggage brought to the terminal and it all turned out okay -- I just don't understand HOW this one bag got all the way back to the airport and then abandoned at the departure gate!

The woman with the other group was wild. She was really nice but kept asking wild questions to Frank and his girlfriend. First, they assumed they were married. They were talking about how they had kids already when they met -- and then she asked how long they had been married. They said they hadn't, so Terry says, "So you're just sleeping together!"

This whole conversation was so great and crazy. At one point, she asked "I don't want to get personal but do you live together?" They don't, btw. She loves being by herself and coming home after a long day of work (as a nurse) and not having to take care of anyone or do anything. They live about 15 minutes apart.

At some point, the woman brought up politics and then it was all over. The younger group at the table kept their mouths SHUT. Thankfully. They others were talking back and forth for a while but luckily someone decided to pull the plug!

However, later, when they were asked if they would ever get married, Frank suggested politics might have been a better topic after all!

So, we did have a good dinner and it was fun to meet these new people. We really did make a lot of introductions now so we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for all the people we've met.

As we left dinner, Dan was discussing politics with Cindy who, despite being a life-long Republican can't stomach what's been going on recently. We parted ways with a hug and then Dan and I headed back to the room to change.

We were going to get a drink but Dan decided we were going to get up early and so we skipped that.

Now we're back in the room and about to get to sleep. The boat gets in early tomorrow AND it leaves the port kinda early, too... so we have to get up and get going.

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
