"norm around town" or "mini casino"

Hey Journal!

Today's pain update is pretty consistent with yesterday. Feeling better -- hoping it keep going that way. I've been able to sit more without as much pain. I just really hope it keeps this trend. I'd like to not have any steps backward!

I got up this morning and headed off to work. The day was nice and quiet and I was able to get a lot of things done. It was my final day of peace for a long time -- I'm sure. Dan's dad was out today AND it was the last day before we open. All hell is going to break loose next week, I'm sure!

So, Dan went to the Bronx with his parents for this wake thing, too. He left work around 1:00.

I spent my day at work getting things done in the office and finalizing all the things I had to do for opening day tomorrow. I am hoping things go smoothly!

For lunch I ordered pasta with garlic and oil with chicken on top. It came out REALLY REALLY GOOD! I get that every now and then, but this time they put these little crumbles of bread on top and it tasted AMAZING. I wonder who did that and why. I want them to do it every time but I don't even know how to ask for it!

I also met with two potential new members today. THey were such nice people. They wanted to sit in the restaurant and talk and they were super-concerned about making sure the club wasn't stuffy and pretentious and they really wanted to join to make new friends.

I left work at 5:30 and headed home. I took my bath/shower and then I headed out to pick up Kristen for dinner! We weren't sure where we wanted to go, so we drove around a bit until something came to us! Dan was still in the Bronx with his parents so he was not able to enjoy the evening with us.

We decided to go to Villa Olivetta. I thought I had heard good things about it and Norm was playing tonight. When we arrived, we walked through the front door and Norm was standing right there, straight ahead.

He was in a very odd location because you could only see him if you were sitting at the bar, and there were just two people there. The rest of the restaurant was behind a big wall, and you could not see him at all. You could hear him, but it was like listening to the radio!

Our waiter came over and asked if we had ever been there before and when we said no, he babbled something about a price fixe menu. When he left, I looked at the menu and realized that the whole menu was price fixe. You couldn't order anything else! Ugh!

For an appetizer, I went with the rice ball. It was weird. It was like a clump of rice, peas, and weird cheese.

I got the Chicken Parm for dinner and it was very good. While we were eating our main course, Norm took a break and came over to talk to us. He sat with us for a while and we enjoyed his company. He didn't ask where Dan was, but you could tell he was thinking it! Eventually I broke the suspense and told him.

The best part about the meal was the desert. I got a chocolate cake that was reallllly good. So, comparing this to Parma Night, Parma Night is much more reasonable at about $17. You get the same things, appetizer, parm, dessert & tea/coffee... but the dessert options here were much better. OF course, was it worth about $7 MORE? Probably not.

When it was time to leave, we were held hostage. They took FOREVER to bring the check... like maybe 20 minutes... and then once they did, they took forever to come and take the credit cards, and then forever to bring them back. When he didn't bring them back, I contemplated leaving and then cancelling my card. I figured I'd get a new one from the bank quicker!

Oh, and I forgot....as we were waiting to leave, Norm had not played Sister Golden Hair and we were quite saddened by this. Kristen took out a piece of paper and started scrawling Sister Golden Hair on it so that we could hold it over the wall for him to see. As she wrote "SIS"... He started playing it!! It was perfect timing!

When we were done, we decided to go to Accompsett Middle School. Weird, I know...but on the way there, we had passed it and I mentioned how I had never been inside (or only once) and had really wanted to go see what it was like. They were having a school play tonight so it was the perfect opportunity. We arrived just as the play was ending so people were leaving. We wandered in and looked around. It's so strange. I's like a cross between the high school and the 9th grade building. The cafeteria is like a prison cafeteria, and there are SO MANY levels! I thought the 9th grade building was crazy with their split levels, but this was just wild.

We used the bathroom there and Kristen got a great shot of the sink setup in the girls' room. It was literally TWO bathroom vanities... like from Home Depot....just pushed back to back in the center of the room! Weird!!

When we left, we decided to check out the new casino! It was interesting. We found some parking and avoided the valet. We headed inside and it was odd because the whole lobby is EXACTLY the same as it was for our wedding. Same furniture and everything. Then, the upstairs landing area has been transformed there are a bunch of slot machines. It's so weird though because there weren't that many slots and the parking lot was really crowded...so how was there enough room for all the people!? I think they're supposed to be opening more but I don't understand why they didn't wait a little!

Anyway, I put $10 into a slot machine and it was quickly evaporated.

We had our fill and headed back to the car.

I got home around 10:30 and showered up. Dan got home and we watched some game shows and now we're off to bed!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
