"leaks and cracks" or "no mariachi"

Hey Journal!

This morning Dan and I got up and watched an episode of Parenthood before we got out and started working on the pool! That was the big project of the day and it took a while to get everything under control.

First, we took everything related to the filter apart. We removed the filter, the grids, and the motor, and we brought the grids to the front, cleaned them out, and then cleaned out the inside of the filter tank. So much green crap came out. This was the first time we removed the grids from the filter.... we couldn't do it the past two years so we thought it wasn't possible. I found a diagram online and it definitely WAS possible so we tried again and it worked great.

Then we went to Leslie's to get some gaskets and o-rings that we needed. When we arrived, we asked for help and the girl found the rings we needed. Another girl offered to put the rings on for us since we had brought the parts with us. She was nice and helpful. She lubed them up. She also told us to "lube the shaft" when we get home.

I told her this was only our first trip of the day so there was a good chance we'd be back later. She laughed, we went home, and then realized we needed one more thing and we were back within 15 minutes.

Back home with all of our parts, we reassembled the motor, put the filter back together, and then we started running the pump. We were super excited that we MUST have solved the leaking problem. I mean, the rubber parts were so old and deteriorated that they MUST have been the problem.

Anyway, it did NOT fix the problem and, upon closer inspection, it turns out that the leak is coming from where the motor meets the plastic housing. We looked this up online and the fix for it is INSANE. It looks like you'd have to take the entire motor apart and it seems extremely complicated. Given that the motor looks like shit, is cracking, peeling, and disgusting....we're just going to get a new one. We ordered it online....$450 later...and it's coming next week (hopefully!)

We came inside after that and watched some episodes of Parenthood and then we had to leave here at 7:30 to meet Re for dinner at 8:00. We had to stop at the library first to take a Pokemon Gym and Re texted us to ask if we could meet at 8:30 instead.

Since we were early, Dan and I drove around some neighborhoods and looked at houses we had looked at when we were looking for houses. (That was some sentence!)

We met Re at 8:30 at the restaurant... we went to Margarita's! Re and I got the arroz con pollo. Towards the end of our meal, the mariachis came over and asked if we had any requests. I was excited to hear some music and Re said, "no thanks..." (to the request) and then they just walked away! They didn't play is anything. We think they must have thought re meant "no thanks" to ANY music. Sad. I feel jipped.

After dinner we went to Target, did some shopping, and then came home. We watched two more episodes of Parenthood and now it's time for bed!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
