"missile silo" or "frozen lemonade and popcorn"

Hey Journal!

Today was our last full day in Arizona and we made the most of it! We had a great time doing some random stuff!

We got up this morning and made our way down to the lobby for some breakfast. I made waffles again and they were really good but every morning I feel like I get hungry again right after breakfast here!

Dan had looked up something interesting to do and we decided to go to the Titan Missile Museum near Tucson. They did tours every hour and we wanted to make it for the 12:00 tour. We left the hotel around 10:10 and our Google Maps ETA was 11:57! Close! We made up some time and even stopping for gas we arrived at 11:50 and made the 12:00 tour!

This was one of those things that I didn't know what to expect but turned out to be really cool!

It started with a woman telling us to watch a 10 minute video. When she started the video, she was the person hosting the whole thing! It was weird! After the video, we met our tour guides who were a man and a woman who used to work at the missile silo when it was in operation!

It was really neat. They took us outside and we went down this little hatch and down into the bunker. Once you got inside, you had to go down some more steps and then there were these two giant blast doors! They were super-thick. Once we went through the doors, to the left, there was a little control room with a bunch of old-fashioned computer systems. They were those consoles with a bunch of lights and buttons on them.

The woman told us that there was a crew stationed there for 24-hours shifts from 1960 until 1982! It's so wild to think that the place was occupied all that time with people just waiting to launch a missile!

Dan got picked to sit in the commander's chair and to turn the key and test-launch the missile! It's wild!

After we finished up in that room, we went over to the actual missile silo! They have deactivated the missile, of course, but the shell of it is there! It's huge! We didn't go all the way down to the bottom of the silo but you could see how far down it went. It was crazy!

We headed back up to the top after that and walked around to check out the area above ground.

It was really a cool experience and I'm glad we found it!

We were hungry for lunch and tired to look for a place to go before we left the missile museum! We decided on a mexican place called Manuel's. They didn't have arroz con pollo on the menu but I was pretty sure they could make it for me anyway. When we arrived, we seated ourselves and then our waitress came over. I decided to get chicken noodle soup to start off with and then changed my mind about the arroz and went with a steak!

The chicken soup was amazing! I loved it... I think it was one of the best I've ever had. The steak was good, too! It was a good meal and I was very happy with our lunch selection!

I wanted to find something to do on the way home and Dan found a place called San Xavier de Bac. It was an old mission church in the middle of the desert! We went there and it was really cool inside. It reminded me of Marcelino. It was this old church with the bells and all. It had a courtyard out in the back and then, inside the church, there were a bunch of carvings and statues. It was really interesting.

There was one room with a bunch of candles lit and when I walked in I was shocked at how hot it was inside. It was a hot day out buy inside the room it was such a weird feeling. ll of the candles made it feel so hot and strange!

On the way back, we stopped at Target because Dan wanted to get something and, while we were there, I saw this frozen Minute Maid lemonade and NEEDED it. I got on line at the cafe and also decided to get some popcorn. What a great decision. It was the best. Now THIS is vacation! Just a frozen lemonade and popcorn from Target is all it takes to make me happy!

Back at the hotel, it was a nice night so we decided to go in the hot tub. We got our bathing suits on and headed down. We were the only ones out there so we had a nice, relaxing time!

When we finished, we showered up and then headed out to Organ Stop Pizza for our second night! We had pre-written some request cards for "The Happy Organ" and were excited to slip them into the box when we arrived. CB went on break shortly after we got there and ordered. We sat up in the balcony and there were a fair amount of people there tonight. We put our requests in and when he got back he picked them all up.

One of the other songs I had requested was Stars and Stripes Forever! He opened his set with that one and it was something else! What a great request we made.... he turned on the lights, and even had a flag come out of the ceiling!! It was insane!

He never did play our request. He hates the "Happy Organ!" I don't know why...it would be such a good one!

We left around 8:30 when he finished up for the night and then we went for one last stroll around Tempe Beach Park! We walked up and down along the lake and I caught some more Pokemon along the way. It was such a perfect night out. The weather was amazing. Arizona is amazing.

As we were leaving, I found the final ghost Pokemon of the Halloween event that I've been looking for the whole trip! Wahoo!

We got back to the hotel a little while ago and now we're just showering up and getting ready for bed. Our flight is at about 12:30 so we have a little time in the morning to get up, pack up, and eat breakfast before we head out!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
