"the wedding, part i" or "greetings from block island"

Hey Journal!

Well, tonight's entry comes to you direct from BLOCK ISLAND, Rhode Island.

I got up at 5:30 this morning, and Dan picked me up at 6am to depart on our Journey! We headed out to Montauk and on our way we made a few stops. There wasn't much traffic at all until we hit a specific spot on Sunrise Highway where about 50 roads merge into one lane. So weird. At one point we were making a left hand turn, and this guy stopped at the light in the car next to us starts to go, and as he passes us, he yells WHILE looking at us, "I aint hiring not Latinos!!!" It was sooo random. We were so confused. LOL

In East Hampton we stopped at a Bank of America to take out some money and to deposit my work check. We then went to Waldbaums to get some razor blades for me cause I had no more left. We finally made it out to Montauk to the Ferry place. When we got there, we parked the car, and when we looked over, we had parked right next to my cousin Dan's friend, Keith's parents. Wild. We went and pike dup our ticket at the window, and then we had some time to kill before the ferry departed. We arrived at 8:30 and the ferry was to leave at 10:00. We boarded at 9:30, so we just hung out in the car and went to the "Public Restroom."

Shortly after we arrived Mike and Annette arrived, then Andie and Paul, and Mike, and some other Colonial/Pinelawn people.

The ferry ride was fun, we could see much cause it was totally foggy! It took an hour to get to Block Island... I ate a doughnut on the ride and read "Dan's Papers." lol

We got off the ferry and arrived before Dan's mom and dad... (They drove and took the car ferry from Point Lookout, CT.) We figured out where our hotel was and instead of taking a taxi, we decided to walk it. It wasn't a bad walk, but lugging suitcases was crazy. We got here.. a little "hotel" called the Narraganset. We tried to check in, but we were too early. LOL SO we left our luggage and walked around a bit. We walked to Town and had lunch a ta little place called Rebecca's. We went into the "Star Department Store" and looked around. The whole island is very.....old-ish. And by that I mean, It has no Starbucks, no McDonalds, no malls, no stores that are remotely modern.

We met Dan's Mom, Dad, Brother, and Jessica when they got off the ferry in town. We all crammed into the car and drove back to the hotel. We checked in, and Verna, who seems to be in charge of the hotel helped us out. She's a very nice lady. She even remembered Dan's name from earlier in the day.

One thing i Have to point out about the people around here... they are all really friendly.. and no one really seems like there in a rush to do anything. They all seems really nice.. it's kinda scary when people stop their cars to let you cross the street randomly, and then smile and wave at you. It's wild. LOL It's nice, just not what we're used to, you know! LOL

So, back to the story, we checked in, Dan's mom and dad's room is in the main house... third floor, Room 1. It's "the nicest room in the house" (says Verna)... We went to see it before finding out rooms. It was nice...Well, it had a nice view.. but it's about half the size of my bedroom at home, which you all know how big THAT is. It has a nice view though. Just a bed and a closet and a bathroom. No TV, no nothing. Like i said, everything here is Old-ish! lol

It's like staying at a hotel in the 1800s!

Fast forward to looking at OUR rooms. Well, we are in separate house, not attached to the other one. We have and adjoining room with Brian and Jessica, and I have to tell you.. there's really no way for my to describe what this place is like. The room has a sink in it, but the bathroom is in the hall for us to share. There are lamps in the room, but no electrical outlet near them to plug in. Oh yeah, and no BULBS in the lamps. So that kinda outweighs the need for an outlet. No phone, no tv.. no nothing. Oh, they put a fan here, too. But still, no outlet nearby.

Anyway... you have to wait to see pictures to understand this setup. Really.

After that Dan and I took a walk to town and used the internet at the "Island Free Library" Living up to its name, there were no islands to be found within the library.

The library is THE MOST MODERN BUILDING and most normal looking place on this entire island. It was actually the first place I wasn't afraid to use the bathroom / wash my hands. LOL It also had WiFi for my laptop, so I loved that.

We came back here and took a nap before getting ready for the night's activities. Oh yeah, btw.. there are 990 people who live on this island, and you see the same people over and over and over. LOL

Okay, so... WOW this is a long entry! LOL

Okay, so when we woke up from our 30 minute nap, we got ready and Dan's mom and dad picked us up and we drive to the Beachhead Restaurant. We consumed dinner there with Mike Anziani. I got the "Chicken Parmesan over Linguini" It was AMAZING. It was actually the best of that that I've ever had. It was so amazing.

After dinner we dropped Mike off at his hotel, the PAYNE.. or HOUSE OF PAYNE, as he and Annette like to call it.. Then we came back here and regrouped for 10 mins, then departed again to go to the dessert for all of the wedding guests. It was at the Atlantic Inn. It was really nice, we got there and said Hi to everyone..ordered some drinks, and milled around talking. We had fun talking to Annette, and Andie, and all other people.. Saw Steve and Marilyn, and of course Justin and Alex. We talked to Dorothy and Eve and other people we knew. It was good times.. really fun, although I didn't eat any of the deserts.

That had started at 8:15, and we came back at 10:30. Dan and I were really tired, so we walked all the way back to town and then back. No reason really. At one point we passed this random guy and girl in a little alcove, and it scared the crap out of us. We laughed, and then as we walked away the girl pokes her head out and says, "Don't worry..we're normal" LOL!! So then Dan was like, "Oh...you're harmless" and she says, in a semi-accent.. "I don't know what means." So Dan proceeds to try to explain it to her by saying... "it means that you cant cause Harm to anyone." LOL

Anyway, we got back there at about 11:50 and got ready for bed. It's now 12:13 and I have to get ready for bed now. I cant wait to fill you in on all the details tomorrow! Breakfast around 11, then the wedding at three. I hope to get this online by going to the library sometime between that. So if you're reading this..then I did! LOL

That's all for tonight... wish me luck sleeping in this semi-scary room. :)

Goodnight. :)
