Hey Journal!

OUR NATION'S CAPITOL!

This morning we woke up at 9:30, and watched a little TV as we awoke. We then ate cereal and took showers, and then departed to start the day of fun in the city.

We took the Metro to the Mall again, and our first stop today was the National Holocaust Museum. We went in and took the elevator up for the "Permanent Exhibit" It had lots of stuff, and some very interesting movies to watch. I had heard so much about it before from my two Holocaust classes in school, that I was excited to see it. I had seen pictures and a documentary about it... so it was nice to see it in person. It was pretty interesting, except one thing that bothered me is that they had a lot of things that were "Cast" from originals. Like..they would take original artifacts from other museums and "cast" them to make replicas. So, I don't really see the interest in looking at things that are only copies of things. If that's the case, I'd rather see pictures of it. If they have the real thing, then that's great (and they DID have a lot of real things).. but otherwise I'm not a fan. Oh well, just my little comment on it. Anyway, we were there for a while and when we left we took a walk over to the Old Post Office tower.

When we got in, we took the elevator up to the Observation Deck! From there, you have a really nice view of everything, but one complaint I have here is that they have these weird wires to prevent you from falling out the windows, apparently.. Like it's a metal wires going vertically, each about an inch apart. So.. that totally ruins my ability to take any nice pictures from there. What we DID do, was pull one of the wires to the side to make enough room for my camera lens. (Despite the sign telling us "DO NOT TOUCH WIRES" Whoops.

Also, this was a National Park, and I like national parks because they have cool brochures. They are very informative, and all have that little black stripe on the top...very cool.

So, we then went back down and ate some lunch in the Pavilion there. Next we went to the National Museum of Natural History. It was cool, but wayyyy crowded. We wandered the exhibits quickly and then headed over to the Art Museum. Dan wanted to see the modern section, however I was not impressed.. most of the things in the Modern section looked like the crap that used to be in the Smith Haven Mall... you know.. that hideous orange thing in the middle of the food court, and the potato chips that hung from the ceiling.... yeah.. they had those type of things there.

So.. We were going to head over to the Museum of American History, BUT it was crowded too.. I dunno why so much today.. Yesterday we peeked in and it was pretty empty.. SO we decided to come back for that tomorrow morning. We then went to the Lincoln Memorial and to the WWII, and Vietnam Memorials. They too have national park brochures, and that makes me happy.

Next we went over to the White House and went around the other side, where I got some really close up pictures. It was cool. I also got pics of men patrolling on the roof.

They have big National Park signs that say "President's Park" and I wonder if they have any brochures for that... If so.. I want one.. We couldn't find any, though. Tomorrow we are going to the White House Visitor's Center, so I will look there!

Next we took the Metro to Dupont Circle where we went to Starbucks and then went to the ATM. At the ATM, we got there and there was still a card stuck in the slot. We took it out, and then waited about 7 or 8 minutes to see if the owner would come back to claim it. They did not, so we decided to call Bank Of America to report the card as lost.. but we couldn't get a person on the phone, so instead we just put the car into the business deposit slot, which I guess drops into a safe in the bank, and the bank people can deal with it on Tuesday. LOL

We then got on the Metro again and headed back to Rosslyn. THERE WSA THE MOST ANNOYTING GUY ON THE METRO. He looked about our age, and he was talking so loud with this annoying voice all about how he "knew years ago what to do to solve the problems of terrorism... and clearly...blah blah blah" He was sooo obnoxious, and then we looked over to the left of us, and this kid next to us was taking a picture or movie of him with his camera, and I thought this was funny..cause you know that's something I would do... So I took a picture of him, taking the picture of the kid! LOL

So wild.

We then went to the Iwo Jima memorial in VA, and then headed back to the Hotel. We rested up a bit, our feet were KILLING us from so much walking! Then we got ready to go out for dinner.

We went down to the lobby to go online before going out, and there was a woman with a little girl. The girl picked up the "CAUTION: WET FLOOR" Sign, and was running around the lobby with it. The mother was telling her to put ti down, and she would not. The mother then proceeded to chase her around the lobby! She was yelling to her, "Put it down.... That is not your suitcase!" Best line. Ever. :)

Okay..so...we decided on Maggiano's Little Italy for dinner. It's in a nice mall in Virginia. It was a really nice place with a cool look, but our waiter was a little weird. He messed up our orders, and then the wrong food came before our appetizer, then when the right food came, it was cold and weird.. so Dan spoke to the manager, and he took off half the stuff on the bill. So that was nice of him. We then walked around the mall a bit, and then headed back to the hotel. When we got in the elevator, it was shaking a little, so Dan and I were laughing at that, and then this guy got in and was like, "These elevators are really....old."

Tomorrow, we have to finish up stuff....gotta go to the White House Visitor's Center, then to the Washington Monument, and to the National Museum of American History! Wooo! Then for lunch we are supposed to meet up with a Detective from the DC Metropolitan Police Department, then it's time to head home!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
