"dc monday" or "labor day"

Hey Journal!

Today we got up at 8:30am and started the day off with cereal and a shower, then headed out for another exciting day in the District.

We took the Metro to Farragut North and walked down to the White House Visitor's Center. Inside they have some cool exhibits and other information pertaining to the White House and its occupants!

Of course, I was sure to pick up a National Park Brochure! :)

After that, we headed down to the Washington Monument, and sadly they had run out of tickets for the tour to the top of the monument!! I really was looking forward to going up there again and taking some pics! It was fun last time. We sat there for a while and looked at the monument, and then headed over to the National Museum of American History!

We spent a little time there looking at some of the exhibits, but it was a little disappointing because many of the exhibits were closed! Today was the last day that the museum was open, after that...they are closing for two years to completely re-do everything. So, for some stupid reason, they decided to close half of the exhibits in advance to prepare.. but that made it kinda boring. :(

Next we went looking for somewhere to have lunch. Our feet were killing us from intense amounts of walking! We decided on the ESPNZone and the Detective that Dan worked with met us for lunch. He and Dan talked about lots of stuff, and we had a good lunch. He treated us for lunch... very cool.

We were done around 2:00 and headed back to the Hotel. We got in the car and started to head home, with a few quick stops beforehand. We stopped to get a brochure from the National Park across the street from the hotel, and noticed a tower that you can go up in.. it's called the Netherlands Carillon. What it is, is a big tall tower that you can walk up in, with crazy little stairs, and then when you get to the top there's a great view of DC. There's a man up there playing what looks like an organ, but it rings bells. It was REALLY cool. We went all the way to the top, and I was scared coming back down the little spiral staircase.

We then went to Arlington National Cemetery, then stopped to get a NPS Brochure from the Lincoln Memorial, and finally went to the Jefferson Memorial, which neither Dan nor I had been to before. It was pretty cool!

Then at 4:20 we left for home! We were very very worried about Labor Day traffic, and quite prepared to sit in tons of traffic the whole way home. Much to our surprise, things moved extremely well! We made great time! The ONLY place with traffic was at the end of the Belt Parkway before the Southern State, and we took an alternate route! It took us just over 5 hours to get home! Pretty good time!! It was great!

I got home and showed my mom some brochures and stuff, then got my pictures off the laptop, and got ready for bed as fast as possible! Anyway, it's time for bed now!

Back to work, tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
