"capital tour" or "postal museum"

Hey Journal!

Just pretend that the date on here is yesterday's! I am updating you on Monday's highlights, now!

We woke up bright an early at about 8:00 on Monday and ate breakfast, and got ready to go out to DC for some touristy fun!

We took the Metro, and we arrived there a half hour before the "All-Day" passes were usable, so we had to get an additional one way fare. We got to the Smithsonian stop and walked down to the Capitol. We got tickets for the 10:45 tour, and then we had some time to kill, so we went to the Museum of the American Indian!

Finally, I've wanted to go there for quite some time. Unfortunately we only had time for one floor, but it was fun. We used the bathroom there, in the "Lounge" which was an unusually large area.

Then we headed back over for our tour. One of the highlights was going through security. They told everyone a million times before going into the metal detectors and x-ray machines not to bring any food, water, or sharp objects. So...after we go through, this guy behind us puts his bag on the x-ray belt, and the security guy says to him, "So, it looks like you've got some water, snacks, and a pair of scissors!" LOL Good direction following.

So, we went inside, and our tour guide was really nice. He gave some more info that the one last time didn't, so it wasn't really repetitive. Much to our luck, the old Senate gallery was open to the public, and it usually is closed! That was nice to see. THEN, at the end of the tour, we noticed some people going on a tour of the actual House of Representatives area.. you know, what you see on TV and all... Anyway, you are supposed to get tickets from your congress person, but Dan asked the security lady, and she gave us tickets and stickers to put on. We had to go outside and get a slip, and then go back inside (made no sense) and go upstairs. When we got up there, it seemed like a random area, and we were like, "Are we even supposed to be up here?" So anyway, we went into the House Gallery. It was cool! :)

Then we headed out, and over to Union Station. We took the Metro over to Tenleytown-AU to see AU. While waiting for the bus there was a wild person with a bike wheel. We went into Dan's old dorm building. It was quite easy today since it was move in weekend! We went to the bathroom there, too, and then headed out for some fooood! We were all starving, and we walked down the hill to a place we called "Spring Valley" (because the banner in the shopping center said that.) We went to a deli there, and I got a meatball sub. It was yummy. We may or may not have overheard conspiracy to steal from one of the stores in the vicinity while we were eating. It was very odd.

Then we took the AU bus back to the Metro. We saw the bus at the top of the hill and ran like crazy to make sure we didn't miss it.... When we got there, we realized the driver wasn't even in the bus! Then, when he got back, we waited about 4 more minutes, and then this girl RUN on the bus, and sits down in the front, turns to the driver and says..."There are enough people... Can we go now?" And he leaves. Someone's in a hurry!

We took the Metro back to Union Station and went to the Post Office Museum which was quite exciting! I liked it. Very postal! The guy at the information desk was WILD.

We got back at about 3:40ish, and we watched the men who came to fix the pipe leak. We hung out on the balcony for a while and then we went out for dinner.

We went to BD's Mongolian Grill. Go Mongo. It was yummy. I filled my plate to the top, and it was quite enjoyable.

We stopped on the way back and got ice cream at CVS, and then when we got home we ate it, and played Scrabble!

It was quite fun and exciting. Then we went to beddy bye!

And now, we are actually home.... but I'll give you today's rundown a bit later!

Adios for now. :)
