"day 1: bon voyage"

Thursday Jan 3, 2:05am

Hey Journal!

Welcome to the Cruise!!!

We got up this morning at 4am! An ungodly hour, I know. We got up and got ready and my mom came by to pick us up at 4:30. She took us to the airport where we met Dan's mom and dad and Brian and Jessica. We got on line and it was a huge line for the baggage check-in, but it went really fast, surprisingly.

We checked our bags and got through security and into the waiting area where we got some food, and then waited for our numbers to be called to get on the plane. They changed the way Southwest Boards, so you don't have to line up in boarding groups, but rather by group and then by number, so you don't have to wait on line forever.

The plane ride was pretty good... being exhausted from the past week or so, I managed to sleep a little on the plane, although it was a tad bit uncomfortable, and I kept waking up every few minutes.

There was a lady behind us who was snoring so loudly, It was nuts.

We landed in Florida at about 9:30 and it was surprisingly cold here!!! Lauren called from work and needed help printing inventory sheets. I tried to explain it to her, but it wasn't working, so I used the airport's wireless connection to connect to work and print out the stuff.

We hung out in the airport for a little while, then took two taxi's Port Everglades to get on the boat. It was very fast getting on this time, unlike last time. We just went to the desk and they checked us in, we had already filled out our documents online!

Then we continued onto the boat to have lunch!! We sat in the restaurant for a while eating and playing some games until the rooms were ready.

Then we went down and took a little nap.

The boat is pretty cool, lots of fun themed rooms and all.

We departed from Ft. Lauderdale at 4pm, and it was freeezing cold on the deck while the ship was leaving. Hopefully soon we'll get into some NICE WARM places. Keep moving south!

So...Dinner was good, in the Bacchus Dining Room, although the guy who served the drinks was in a daze and messed things up.

After dinner we had the Welcome show with the Cruise Director. That was fun. There was a comedian who was pretty funny!

Many of the people on the entertainment staff are from Canada.

After the show we walked around the boat for a while...and the WEIRDEST THING EVER....

We walk past this group of girls who are in the lobby area, and I hear, "Is your name Brian?" So I turned around, and I was thinking..."What?? Who are these people...How do they know my name?" So I said Yes, and she says my last name, and then I was like..."Umm yes....?????" and she says..."You're from Smithtown? and went to Tackan Elementary???" I was like... WHAT THE HECK!!!??? Okay, so it turns out it's a girl named Jillian who I actually DO remember. I remember her now that I know who she is, and I do know her face also, though I probably wouldn't have remembered if she hadn't said anything! She had a friend with her who also said she graduated from Smithtown, but I didn't know her name, AND she was quite drunk..she kept saying.."SHMISHTOWN" LOL! It was hysterical! But it was so random and funny seeing people who I went to HS with! What a coincidence!! So funny.

We wandered the ship and then went down to the "Mad Hatter's Ball" where there was Karaoke going on. We sat there for a while and watched the people sing, and it was really fun. The lady who ran the Karaoke was AMAZING. She was from Russia and her name was Marina. She was funny and just said and did weird things. We thoroughly enjoyed.

After that we walked around for a while and heard some people speaking French in one of the lounges. As we walked by one of them said a French curse word, BUT we knew they were from Quebec because as Fred taught us, this word is only used by Quebecois! And as we were sitting there one of the girls got up and said, "IM A FROG..IM A FROG" and again, thanks to Fred, we understood that this means that were making fun of the "Square Heads" who live in the English speaking parts of Canada! lol

So, then we called it a night at about 2:00! Now we must get to sleep in preparation of a Day at Sea tomorrow!!!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
