"to virginia we go" or "mini-golf, home depot, row boats"

Hey Journal!

I'm a day behind right now, so I'm gonna fill you in on my Saturday instead of today!

We got up at 4:30 and got our things ready and departed at 5. We made excellent time, and only stopped once at a Dunkin Donuts and made our way to Fairfax, Virginia in only 4.5 hours! :)

We arrived at Kristen and Don's around 9:30 and we had breakfast, and hung out and such! It was soooo nice out. A really warm day, and we decided to go mini-golfing.

It was lots of fun, it was a nice mini-golf course, and each hold had like two different holes you could shoot for, but we went for the one with the flag. The little water areas had floating alligators and birds in them. It was funny. It was really hot out, and I had my jeans on, and was sweating! It was sooo summery, though! I hope I brought some of that nice weather back here!!

Anyway, the girl at the little booth thought we were crazy, I think... cause when we were done Dan asked her if he could take off his wristband. LOL So random.

There was also a little asian child's birthday party going on there. I wanted some pizza. haha.

So, after that, we went looking for an italian ice place, but unfortunately the only one we located on my phone with Google was nonexistent when we arrived, and they didn't answer their phone.. so we gave up and went to Starbucks. Then we went to lunch at Chipotle, and then to Home Depot.

We went to Home Depot because Kristen and Don wanted to put a screen door on the balcony door of their apartment, so they could leave the door open and let the breeze in! We spent so much time at Home Depot lol it was crazy..but we were in the weirdest mood and got some funny pictures and it was just a wild event. We parked on the second story of the parking garage, and took the stairs down to the entrance. There was an elevator and the door kept opening and shutting by itself and then it would buzz. It was crazy.

We finally found a door, and picked out an eagle ornament to adorn it.

When we went to pay for it, we went to the self check out, and the barcode on the door wasn't ringing in... so the woman in charge of the self-scan area came over and told us to go back and get a SKU number. We asked her to call someone, but she said, "I could call... but they will not come. I know." LOL She was an Indian-ish lady who comes into play later in the story. LOL

So we went back and dropped off the door.. oh wait.. I skipped the part where we affixed the door to the roof of Don's car with a bunch of twine! It was great! Then we drove slowly back, as everyone stared at us on the road!

Next we decided to go row boating at Burke Lake Park. Yeah, that's a mouth full! So we got there at about 5:00, and the boats had to be in by 7:30. We had to rent two, unfortunately, cause they had a three person limit... which is kinda stupid cause you can definitely fit 4 people in that boat.

We rowed around the lake, and made it down a far corner, where I got out on a little dock thingy. For a little while we held our boats together, and stayed together.. that was fun! Then we started heading back, and it was HORRIBLE.. the wind was blowing in the other direction, and the boat kept turning around, and we were getting pushed further back!

Dan and I finally got a handle on it, and started moving correctly, but Kristen and Don moved farther away!! At once point these two girls hit our boat! LOL And we couldn't get away from them! one was wearing a pink Winnie the Pooh shirt, and she didn't speak! lol

Once we passed the point where the current was moving the other way, it was much easier, and we got on track again... but we had no sight of them!! We waited for a while, and saw people heading out, and thought it was them... but as they finally got closer, we realized it wasn't them. Then another boat came, and that wasn't them EITHER! Kristen had left her phone in the car, and I did too. Dan had his, and Don had his.

I didn't know Don's number off the top of my head, and Kristen didn't know Dan's! She tried to call me, not realizing my phone was in the car! So... We texted Sam, thinking she would be the only one to have his number, that we knew, but we didn't hear back from her.

So, we got to the shore, and told them that our friends were still out there! lol They didn't seem to do much.

We walked out on a long pier thingy and looked down the lake, and didn't see them at all! Then as we were heading back, we saw them back at the dock!

They abandoned the boat and tried to walk back, but then flagged down a person with a motor boat to bring them back to the shore!

What an adventure!

After that we came back, did some work on the door, then ordered dinner... While we waited for the dinner to arrive, Don and I went back to Home Depot to get a few more supplies that were needed for the door. Actually, a bigger drill bit.

At the self-checkout, we met our friend again... Her name was Rajaa. (My nickname for her is Rajaa-Muffin!) She recognized us, and then she went on to ask Don where he works, and if he had a job for her as a woman who speaks English as a second language. Maybe a translator, she said. She was really nice... but it was so random!

I got a meatball hero. We then had some drinks, sat out on the balcony, watched RAIN (the little child across the way) run around like a waif, and took a walk around their apartment complex in the nice warm night.

We then hung out some more, watched TV, and I was exhausted and fell asleep on the floor! LOL I woke up around 12 and moved to the bedroom!

It was a super-fun and eventful day! Non-stop!! Seriously... we did so many things it felt like we were there for more than just one full day!

Anyway, I will be back soon with the rest of our trip and Sunday's entry. Don't worry.. Rajaa makes another appearance on Sunday... so stay tuned!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
