providence fun

Hey Journal!

So, I am writing this entry on the way home from Providence! I didn't get to write last night because we were up quite late and went right to bed! I'll fill in the details shortly...

We got up around 9:00, got showered up, and ready, and then went down to have some breakfast in the "Breakfast Room" at the hotel! Yay for complimentary breakfast!

Dan used the special waffle making machine, and it was beeping at him, so the lady who's in charge of the breakfast area came over and told him to flip it over, and then she says, "Did you spray it?" (With the non-stick stuff) and he just stares at her... and she gives a look like, "How could you not spray it?" so Dan says... "A little." LOL It was funny, but I guess you hadda be there!

So then we headed out to the city! We drove around looking for a place to park, but it was expensive to park in lots, and the garages, too. So we found this national park, and parked in their parking lot, then went into the visitor's center, and the woman was telling us about a bunch of fun things to do. She said we could leave the car there if we wanted, so we did!! Perfect!

Then we walked up to Benefit Street, and over to John Brown's house, where we got on the 11:00 walking tour of a lot of historical stuff. The woman who was our tour guide was AMAZING. She was really nice, and fun, and did a great job of explaining stuff, and making it interesting. She said she was a 3rd grade teacher for 30 years. I have decided that's what Re should do when she retires, give tours of historical sites!

So anyway, the tour lasted about an hour and a half, and then Dan and I walked up by Brown University and RISD and down a street with a lot of stores and restaurants.

We came back to the John Brown House at 1:30 for a tour of the house itself. The house was very nice and had lots of historical stuff in it. The man who led the tour was a little dry and long winded, so it wasn't as great as the woman's tour. It was also REALLY hot outside, and we were sweating so much from walking around... so it was nice to be in the house, which even though it didn't have A/C was much cooler than outside.

After that we walked down to the Providence Place mall to go have lunch at Fire and Ice! We had gone there a few years ago on our way home from Boston, and it was really good, so we were happy to go again!

We talked to some random people there about what there was to do at night, and about the Waterfire thing which we wound up going to for a little while later on.

After lunch we walked around some more, walked around the mall, and then over by Johnson and Wales University, and then took the long hike back to the car. There was a bike race going on in the middle of the city, kinda crazy, and they had lots of roads blocked off, but it was wild watching these packs of people going so fast! We watched a couple of laps.

So...we were exhausted and wiped out from our day of walking everywhere! We got back to the hotel, took a shower, watched some TV, and got ready for going out at night. We bought some Vodka at a Liquor store had some drinks before leaving the hotel. We took a taxi to the city because obviously we couldn't drive. They hotel said it was gonna be a little more than 10 dollars, but unfortunately it was like 25! Insane!

We walked around Waterfire for a while, it was pretty cool, and it was packed. They lite these little fires up and down the river. After a while though there's only so much you can see/do... so it gets a little boring.

Then we headed off to the bar we were going to! We had a fun time there, we hung out and honestly, it went by so fast... and thinking back all i can remember is that we sat at at the bar for a while talking.

It turned out that a friend of mine from Scrabulous worked at the bar, so we talked to him for a little, too.

Back at the hotel, when we got back we talked to the lady at the front desk who was the same lady who checked us in, and she was WILD! She was sooo funny, and I love her!! We talked more about "table tennis" and about the hotel, and random stuff.. she was just so crazy! We talked to her for about an hour!! So funny!

Anyway, that was our Saturday in Providence!!!

Now I'm gonna get goin.. we're on our way home... I'll fill in today's details later!

Adios for now. :)
