"antigua" or "the man of the sea" or "jolly harbour"

2/3/2010 - 10:47pm

Hey Journal!

Today was ANTIGUA! We woke up this morning docked in Antigua! We had breakfast at 8:00 in the room, watched the Colorado news on the TV, and got ready for our FUN day visiting with Steve!

We got off the ship, and took a taxi to Jolly Harbour. The taxi driver was INSANE! He drove like a lunatic, on the wrong side of the road, really fast, and swerving back and forth! We got there fast, though! :P

When we arrived, we got out of the taxi, and there was Steve! Yes, long lost Steve! He grew a beard! We hardly recognized him! He had to take us out to his boat on a little dinghy, but he could only take a few of us at a time. While he made the first trip, he gave Dan and I some Caribbean money, and sent us to the supermarket to get some snacks and drinks!

We went in, and wow... you'd think they were guarding gold. They made us check out little duffel bag on the way in, as if we would be cramming chocolate bars and cereal into it. Then, at the end of each aisle, they had a uniformed security guard, and they watch every move you make like a hawk! My god.. I could never buy anything at home under these conditions! I guess people are hard up for groceries there.

Anyway, we brought our supplies over to the dock, and waited for him to come back. We rode the dinghy out to the boat, and the boat was GREAT! It was such a nice sailboat, and we got the grand tour, and then Steve and Marilyn took us out for a little voyage!

It was so cool the way the sailboat leaned over.. and it went to fast! To top it all off, the water was beautiful! I LOVE the blue and clear water! So so great! Anyway, Marilyn worked all the ropes, and was raising the sails, and it was quite an operation!

We were sailing for about an hour, and then headed back and anchored in the spot we had started from. We were just sitting around talking, and then all of a sudden, we realized that the dinghy was nowhere in sight!! It was GONE! We looked all the way in the distance, and saw it floating away!!!! INSANE!! Dan's dad had tied it up to the boat, and somehow it slipped away!

So, Steve decided to make a swim for it! It was FAR! We think it was about 1/2 a mile away! He swam out though... and made it.. then had to get all the water out of it, and then drove it back to us! So funny! It definitely added a twist to our day!

We he got back, we took headed back to land, and were going to go to lunch at an Italian restaurant nearby, but it was closed... so we went to Subway instead. I got a meatball hero. (Apparently, they guard their mozzarella cheese very heavily.)

We took our same taxi back to the ship... It was called the "Last Man Standing Taxi." I wonder why!

We walked around by the shops, but really there was nothing exciting going on. What a great time we had though...it worked out so perfectly that Steve was here today, and that we got to see them! The sailboat was sooooo fun! It was a great "excursion!"

Anyway, back on the boat, Dan and I went to the "Food and Beverage Trivia," which was ridiculous, and we lost. Then we went to the gym! I did 1 mile on the treadmill, followed by 1.25 miles on the elliptical, and then back to the treadmill for .75. So, I did 3 miles today! Nice!

Then Dan and I went in the hot hot tub in the "Serenity" area, on Deck 11.

When we got back, we showered us, and watched World News with Diane Sawyer while getting ready for dinner.

Dinner was good, I had really great pork chops! yumm! Speaking of "Yumm"... our waitress Slavka, kept saying "Yummm" and "mmmm" when she would give me my food tonight. I loved it. She's so nice. We always get the best waitresses and waiters.

So... After that, we went to the "Fun Hop" in the disco, and played some games... Then came back to the room to get ready for tomorrow. We have to be up super early tomorrow, to get off the ship around 7:15! Insane! So, we have to get to bed early. Unfortunately, tonight is ALSO the deck party.. and we have to go to that!!

2/4/2010 - 12:10am

So, after getting things ready in the room, we went back upstairs and joined the deck party! It was a lot of fun! The white team clearly won the party, but they said that Red did. It was totally unfair, it wasn't even close. However, there was no prize for winning, so I guess it didn't matter.

There was lots of dancing and fun stuff, and now we're back in the room, and getting ready for bed!

Tomorrow we have to get up at 6:30 for our tour of the Baths and Virgin Gorda in Tortola! Woo Hoo! SO EARLY THOUGH!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
