"rally to restore sanity"

Hey Journal!

Well, the Rally to Restore Sanity today was AMAZING! It was so much fun, and I'm so glad we went! It was definitely crazy packed with people, and we basically watched it on a big TV screen, but being there and being part of it was really cool.

We got up this morning at about 8:45. Last night, I woke up a couple of times in the middle of the night, and had the disorientated "Where am I?" feeling, but I remember being too tired, and thinking, "I don't even care." and just went back to sleep!

I took a shower, and got dressed, and then we made ourselves breakfast. I made the eggs while Dan took a shower, and then we ate and talked to Dan's Uncle before departing for DC. He gave us directions to the Metro, and off we went. Luckily, parking was free today, so we parked in the lot, and walked over to the station. When we got there, there was a ridiculous line of people waiting to get into the station. As we turned right to go towards the end, we noticed it wrapped back around, and passed the station again on the other side. It was literally a half a mile long! Totally crazy!!! We would NEVER have made it into the city in time. Instead, we hurried back to the car, and drove back to Dan's Uncle's house. He drove us in to the city, and dropped us off right at the mall! It was perfect! It was already crowded when we arrived, but we were able to get a good spot in front of one of the giant screens! Really, even though we were relatively far back, we lucked out, because there were tons of people who came later and couldn't even see anything! Also, our spot was as good as any other, because people closer to the stage were blocked by the big TV camera setup, and had to watch on screens anyway!

It was just fun being there! It was very cool. First, it opened with Adam and Jaime from MythBusters, and they had us do the wave back and forth! It was really funny! It took 56 seconds for the wave to go from the stage to the very back of the crowd! Then they had everyone make weird noises all at the same time, like "cheek pop" and "laugh like a mad scientist!" It was really funny. Then, they had everyone JUMP at the exact same time, and it made such a crazy sound when everyone hit the ground! It was incredible!

After that, there were some musical guests, and then Jon Stewart opened the rally! There were so many funny things that happened, I can't even go into them all... I laughed A LOT. Ozzy Osbourne was a big surprise, and he was good... and Jon Stewat's speech at the end was amazing. I have included it here for you, in case you missed it! I'm mad at myself that I didn't set the Tivo to record the whole thing! I hope they replay it sometime!

They made jokes about the attendance estimates throughout the rally, but when we got back we watched the news, and read some stuff online, and it looks like there were between 200,000 and 250,000 people! How wild is that!?

The only downside was that from the MINUTE we got onto the National Mall, there was NO cellphone service whatsoever! We were going to try to find Julio, or some of the other people we knew who were there... but it was impossible. There was no service on AT&T or Verizon. You couldn't go online, send a text, or make a call for the entire rally... their systems were completely shut down. I WAS able to get on a WiFi network they had, but it kept bumping me off, and I only had time to post a few pics.

Oh, and I didn't expect the sun to be so strong in late October!! It was a very nice temperature, and I was really comfortable during the whole thing... but when we got back, my face was burning hot, and I realized I got a BAD SUNBURN on ONLY the right side of my face! :P

After it was over, we hung around and people watched for a bit, and then walked as far away as we could get, to get away from the crowds and get on a Metro. The crowds were EVERYWHERE. No exaggeration. We walked all the way to Dupont Circle, and then got a snack at CVS, and took the Metro back to Metro Center, and then Dunn Loring. They were all packed!

Dan's Uncle picked us up, and we got back around 6:00 and spent a little time relaxing. We planned to go to dinner around 7:30, but it wound up being more like 8. We got there, and Dan's cousin Sarah arrived a little after us, and we sat down at the table. We waited for Alana for a while, but then she texted, saying she would be an HOUR more, so we ordered. She did arrive, and we had a fun time at dinner. A nice night out!

We came back, and it is relatively early, but it's definitely time for bed. We're gonna get up early tomorrow and try to get something fun in before we head back home. Hopefully we can leave early enough to beat the traffic.

Oh, and one more good note... My face finally stopped feeling like it was on fire! Hopefully, the redness will fade away while I sleep!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
