October 31, 2010 - 10:27 p.m. Hey Journal! Well, tonight we're back at home! It was a fun and crazy weekend, and looking back, I am really glad we went to DC this weekend! The rally was a lot of fun, and Jon Stewart's speech was really great! I think you should watch it if you haven't seen it yet! It's funny how after something like that, you're all hyped up, and feel so good. But it's so true that people should stop trying to the be most extreme on their side, and really try to find ways to work together, and find ways to find common ground to build on, rather than saying that the ides of the other side are ridiculous, or making them out to be evil or nuts. Instead of saying 'no' to every single thing that isn't your party's idea, you need to come together and find a way to figure out what we can compromise on to move forward. That's what these elected officials are sent to do, and not to be going on TV shows and news channels making outlandish comments and accusations. It's nuts! So, we had a fun time, and other than that, we didn't really have time for much else. We have already done with touristy thing a few times, so we had a nice relaxing weekend. This morning we woke up around 8:30, got ready to go, and left Dan's Uncle's house by about 9:30. Our first stop was to Pep Boys to get a new headlight for Dan's car. We noticed it was out on our trip down, and we wanted to make sure we got that taken care of! Then we wanted to go to American University. Dan wanted to take a little walk around, and check out his school. Problem: They closed off a TON of roads near Rosslyn and Arlington for a "Road Race" where a ton of people were running in the middle of the roads! It was insane! It caused TONS of traffic, and so many roads were closed. Every time the GPS would make up a new route, it would be closed! It was horrible. There's no reason to close down a whole city's major highways for people to RUN in the ROAD! Roads are for cars! Come on! They should have found a nice big park, and run around there. Geez. So, we made it to AU, and walked around, and Dan reminisced about his time there. Then we had planned to go back to the city for lunch, but because of the traffic, we decided just to start heading home. We made excellent time, and only hit a few very small areas of congestion. We only stopped once for gas in New Jersey, again at the Walt Whitman Service Area. I think it's weird that their service areas have the same names on both sides of the road... Why not give them different names? Did they run out of people to name them after? Anyway, we got home around 5:30, and Dan went out to get us dinner from La Cucina. I got baked ziti. We watched some TV, and then I took a shower, and put up some pictures online! And before I leave you for tonight, I wanted to include the poem that Stephen Colbert "wrote" for the Rally... it's entitled, "The Greatest Poem Ever Written: Are You Sure?" Did you hear that? No? Youre probably going deaf. Did you turn off the oven? Did you set the alarm? Look around at these people. How safe do you feel? That guy who just coughed on your neckCould he have an infection? A mad man could set loose a virus for which there isnt a cure, and while these things may be unlikely - ask yourself Are you sure? And can you be surethat you wont get Ebola from a tainted diet cola, toxic waste, or getting chased by a bearded Ayatollah. Funnel clouds and hail, anthrax in the mail, your lover will discover your vestigial tail. Someones robbing your house. Unlabeled Drano, tornadoes, torpedoes, the horrible sights of some Guidos in Speedos. Choking on a biscotti, being whacked by John Gotti And I have a final fear to drop in your bucket about a friend of a friend of the man from Nantucket. There once was a man from Eau Claire True story. That was funny! If you want, watch it on YouTube. Here. The delivery was funny. So, that's that! We're home, and tomorrow it's back to work, and some stuff there that I'm not particularly looking forward to, but hey.. before I know it... it'll be tomorrow night! Until then... Goodnight. :)
