"atlantic city" or "happy birthday tim"
Hey Journal!
Yesterday, I got up around 9:30 and watched some TV while I waited for Dan. He
got up around 10:30, and when he did, we got read, packed, and off we went for
our little trip to Atlantic City.
We left around 11:30 and we stopped for a bagel, and to get just enough gas to
get us to New Jersey, before we hit the road.
We decided to avoid tolls, and took the Queensborough Bridge through Manhattan.
(We would have taken the Williamsburg Bridge, but there was sooo much traffic
that way, apparently a lane was closed. It might have cost us a little more
time than taking the Verrazzano, but the toll on that bridge is insane, and I
can't bring myself to pay it!
So, we made it though the city, and on to the Jersey Turnpike, we stopped at a
rest stop to go to the bathroom, and then took the Garden State Parkway.
It took us three and a half hours to get there, and we arrived at our hotel in
Absecon, NJ at about 3:00. It was a really nice hotel. It was about 15 minutes
from Atlantic City, and was in a very nice, safe area. There were lots of other
hotels on this road, but ours was by far the nicest. (And was pretty cheap,
too!) The whole hotel was new-looking, the room was decorated nicely, the
furniture was nice-- no complanints!
We went to the room, got setteld, and then decided to drive to the casinos.
There was a sign for Free parking at the Trump Plaza, so we went there, and
parked. We also got $5 free slot play. (We didn't win anything with it, though.
Sad.)
We played about $10 in the slot machines, walked around the boardwalk, and then
to a couple of other casinos, and then back to the car.
We drove over to Harrah's, which did NOT have free parking, but found a weird
parking lot with a sign saying "PARK HERE," so we parked there, and walked in.
We saw Tim, who was wroking at The Pool. He said Hi, and then we headed back to
our hotel.
On the way back, we stopped at a ShopRite on the way, and got some snacks. Then
we went to a Liquor store and purcahsed some beer (for Dan) and Mike's Hard
Lemonades for me. :P
We went back to the hotel, relaxed a little, and I went in the pool! The pool
area was really nice, the water was warm, and it was fun! I started off in the
hot tub, and then went over to the pool. When we first got there, I was the
ONLY one there. It was a big pool, too. Then, as two other people came in just
before we left.
Dan didn't bring his bathing suit, so he just sat on the side and watched.
Then, I took a shower, and we ordered a pizza, and had some drinks!
At about 8:30, we took a taxi to Tim's house which was about 10 minutes away.
The taxi driver was wild. He was nice, but really odd. He told us a story
about a house that had gotten hit by a car, and it turns out... it's Tim's
house. And Tim's bedroom! Ahh!
So, Tim's Birthday!! WOOO! We hung out at his house for a little while before
heading out. A bunch of his friends were there, and he had instructed them to
be nice to us... or apparantly, "not to be nasty" to us! lol
Dan was opening a beer with a can opener, and somehow...the bottle broke. The
top of it broke off, the cap was STILL on the glass. Very strage, and as this
all happened, his finger must have slipped onto the broken glass, and a big
chunk was taken out of his middle finger!!!
It was bleeding like CRAZY. Looking at the hole, it was like a pool of blood!
It wouldn't stop bleeding. One of his friends put a bandage on it, and wrapped
it up with tape. Throughout the night, you could see the whole banage turned
red, and it was even leaking out of it. Grosss!
So, after his hand was bandaged, we went to the bus stop to take the bus to AC!
We got there, and went to the Sports Bar in the Tropicana. It was a fun time!
I don't really remember it all that well, just that the music was good, and it
was a little hot in the corner were we were all standing.
At some point, we tried to leave and got to another bar, but they had a cover,
and noone really wanted to pay a cover, so we wound up back at the Sports Bar,
this time in the complete opposite corner, which was less crowded, and a lot
less hot!
We hung out here for a while, and Tim was CRAAAZY drunks!
We left around 2am, and were going to take the bus, but Neil got a taxi, and we
crammed six people into it.
As we were leaving, Tim was yelling out the window to people passing by, and
some guy came over and gave him a ziploc bag with two buttons in it. And when
we asked what it was, he said "fucking buttons!!!" (Which was very funny.)
We got back to their house, and called a Taxi to take us back to the hotel. It
was our friend from earlier, and he was a lot more chatty this time! I remember
sitting in the taxi, drunk, being like "WHY is he telling us these stories!!?"
and then saying things like, "yeah" and "uh huh" every few minutes to pretend I
was interedted.
He told us he was 70 years old, and had a 35 year old wife. That his wife died
six years ago, and he waited six months before calling the now-wife. That he
was in Vietnam, that he lived in California, and also in Tampa, and ran an
insurance business there. He said he had a "mixed family" with hispanics,
blacks, and "eye-talians." His oldest child is 53, and his oldest great grand
child is 13. He buys them books for college.
I swear, he was driving as slowly as possible to tell us as much about himself
as he could. I felt like the ride took DOUBLE time time as it did to get there!
So we made it back to the hotel around 3:15ish, I took a shower, and then went
to sleep!! Wooo! What a long day, but we had a LOT of fun! :)
Now we're up and gonna go out to breakfast, maybe a couple more casinos, and
then go home!
Adios for now. :)
