"police beat: dog rescue"

Hey Journal!!

Happy Friday! This week was so long, and I'm so so glad it's finally the weekend! :) Tonight, we went out for our traditional Friday night dinner with Kristen and Don, and like so many other times we have been together, we had to get involved in a crisis and call the police!

Yes, it's now #3. First was the woman who passed out in her car at the red light, then it was the open manhole in the middle of the parking lot, and now.. well, now.... let me explain....

We were done with dinner, and had gone to Starbucks afterwards. We left, and were driving around a little before heading home. As we turned onto a residential street and started to make our way down, we were confused by what we saw! There was a dog just sitting ion the opposite side of the road, right in the middle of the lane! It was so odd. We pulled up slowly, but the dog didn't make any move. He didn't park, or anything... just stared at us and was looking around.

Don got out of the car to see if he could figure out what had happened. There was blood on the road, and the dog seemed to be bleeding from its mouth/nose. Assumedly, it had been hit by a car, and the person who hit it was long gone! Crazy!

Don called the police, and then went up to knock on the door of the house nearest the scene, to see if they were the owners, or knew who the owners might be. The man in the house wasn't opening his door, but conveyed through the glass that he had no information.

While we waited for the police to arrive, we were stopped in the middle of the road. Don went over to the other neighbors and alerted them. They came out, and were concerned. They also took a walk down the street to see if they could locate the owners. But they could not. Still, the police had not arrived, but the man from the first house had decided to emerge now. He explained that he had a handicapped wife.

Just a minute before the first officer arrived, a car started to come down the street, and I moved our car to get out of the way. When I did, the dog got up, and started to limp around a little! The police woman pulled up at this point, and got out of the car. She followed the dog as he made his way onto someone else's lawn. That man came out of his house wearing shorts.

The whole neighborhood was getting in on this!

The dog layed down on the lawn, and then a second officer arrived. It was a much colder night than last night, and I was getting cold!!

Nothing really happened for an hour or so. The police were planning to put the dog into the car and take it to a hospital, but then for some reason they decided to call the town animal control instead! We waited and waited, and finally she arrived.

She was wild. We were pretty far away, and from where we were, one of the neighbors said to Dan, "Oh no... We just gave the dog to the Wicked Witch of the West!" Kristen and Don were right there when she arrived, and they said she was really bitchy and nasty!

After it was all over, and we left, we went to see if she had really taken the dog to the hospital! Her car was there, and just pulling away... so we were at least glad to see that she did.

What a night. As you can see, a pattern is developing where it seems that so often when we're out together we happen upon a situation that warrants us to get involved and at least attempt to help!

(PS- Assumedly is another word that the Firefox dictionary chooses not to recognize. Annoying!!)

So now you've heard the exciting part of the day, but don't go away.... you have to know how it started.

Work today was moderate. I made a good effort to not get stressed out today, and took a little bit of a backseat today, trying to decompress from the long and insane week.

I had a lot of work to do, but I tried to not start anything new, and not get too overwhelmed.

I worked on a new e-mail for Karen to send to prospective members, and then worked on finishing the postcards.

I had soup for lunch, and the afternoon got a little busy. A lot of members came by to pay their dues today, which is always a good thing!

Steve was outside all day, but came in at 4:30 just as I was dealing with a mistake that had occurred in the Golf Shop the day before. UGH! He wanted to work on purchasing a new list for a mailing, and then all of a sudden my day exploded! :P

I worked as fast as I could, and wound up leaving around 5:15.

I got home and watched some of the news, and then when Dan got home we went over to meet Kristen and Don for dinner! We went to Smokin' Al's in Massapequa, and we had no wait at all tonight. We guessed it may have something to do with Lent, and were happy that it worked in our favor! :)

I thought my food was exceptionally good night... I thoroughly enjoyed!

After dinner, we drove to Northport to go to a small coffee shop there, but when we arrived we found it to be closed. Sad. That's what led us to Starbucks in town. And well, you pretty much know the story from there!!

We got home a little while ago, and I took a shower, and now it's time for sleep!

I'm pretty tired, and we're supposed to get up somewhat early tomorrow.

Better get to sleep!

Goodnight. :)
