"dc with re"

Hey Journal!

Where did we leave off...

On Friday night when we went to bed,the weather forecast said it was supposed to rain and storm all day on Saturday, so we were hoping that it wouldn't be too bad!

When we got up, it looked a little cloudy and stormy, and we headed out with our hoodies and umbrellas. It was pretty chilly, too.

We were going to take the Metro to DC, but we got up too late to do that. Actually, we wound up saving money because we found a parking garage for only $12, which meant $4 each for the three of us, but I am a little bummed that we didn't get to give Re the Metro experience. It is amazing!!

So, we woke up at 6:30 and got ready, and we left the house around 7:30. We didn't eat breakfast, found our parking garage, and then walked to the Capitol. We got on line before the doors to the visitor's center opened. Just as they opened, it started to rain, and we were lucky enough to make it inside before the torrential downpours started!

We waited on line to see about getting same day tickets for a tour, and it turned out that we got tickets for right then! We were able to get in the 8:50! We watched the little movie, and then took our tour. Our guide was definitely a little strange, but he was funny. The tour was much shorter than I remember it being in the past... definitely shorter than before they made the new visitor's center, and even shorter than when we went with JRo a couple of years ago!

After the tour, we went through the tunnel to the Library of Congress, and I had never been there before. One cool thing we saw was Jefferson's library, which was pretty interesting!

We were pretty hungry after that, having not eaten breakfast, and we walked down Pennsylvania Ave to the Old Ebbitt Grill! It was very enjoyable. We didn't have to wait at all for a table, and we were seated in the back by the bar, just past where we had been with JRo. Lunch was GREAT! I got the steak, mashed potatoes, and snow peas, and I LOVED LOVED LOVED everything about it. I was a little reluctant to spent $17.95 on lunch, but it was worth it. It was so amazingly good. I want to go back right now and get it again.

After lunch, we went over to the White House, looked at it through the fence, and walked all the way around. We made our way to the Washington Monument, and then walked down the mall, past the World War II memorial and Vietnam Memorial, to the Lincoln Memorial.

It hadn't rained any more since we left the Capitol, but the skies were pretty grey, and it was windy. In the time it took the get from the Washington Monument to the Lincoln Memorial, however, the day completely changed. It got BEAUTIFUL out. Nice blue skies, and no need for a jacket!

After Lincoln, we made our way back up the mall, and to the Smithsonian National Museum of American History! We saw the Star Spangled Banner, and then walked around the museum.

We wanted to go to the Archives next, unfortunately the line was long, so we went to take a rest in the Sculpture Garden across the street. We sat by the fountain and enjoyed the day. It was sooo nice out!

Next up, we went to the Museum of Natural History, checked out the primates, and the mammals, and all that fun stuff.

We were pretty exhausted after that, and we walked across the mall, and back to the car.

We drove past Ford's Theater, and the house where Lincoln died, which was being renovated. Then we went to American University so that Re could see Dan's school! Then we went to the Iwo Jima Memorial, and drove past the Pentagon!

We got back to Dan's uncle's house around 6:30 and relaxed! It had been a long day!

Later on in the evening, we used the Google Maps distance calculator to see how long we had walked... and it was CRAZY! We plotted all the points, and it came out to be OVER 8 MILES! Wow! Here's the map:

For dinner, Dan's uncle made us hamburgers and chicken!

We hung out and we're pretty tired, and got to bed around 10:00. We had no real plans for Sunday, but the weather was supposed to be crappy, so we figured we would see what happened in the morning!

Be back later with more!!
