5/20/11 - 11:00am New York

Hey Journal!

It's currently 4:00pm here and I'm writing a mid-day update because so much has happened so far that I don't want to be exhausted later and not be able to write all about it!!! We're back at the hotel for a little rest, and I may actually take a nap after I finish with this!

We got up early this morning at 6:00am and took the tube to Great Portland Street and then walked to the BBC Radio 1 studio. There was absolutely nothing going on outside the entrance to the building, and the street was completely dead! We decided to have breakfast at a cafe just a short way down the road. We sat outside, and had an excellent view of the door.

I got eggs, bacon, and sausage with tea. Dan got their traditional breakfast, with beans and toast and stuff. It was a little chilly outside, mostly because it was early and there was shade on our side of the road, but it wasn't too bad, and we did warm up, especially after my tea!

We had just finished eating our breakfast, and I looked over at the door, and saw someone standing outside taking a break! I turned to Dan and was like "DAN!! WHO IS THAT!! IS THAT CHRIS MOYLES!?!" And sure enough... IT WAS HIM! Dan got up right away and went over to say Hi. I stayed sitting, but then decided I shouldn't wait... this was too great to miss out on! I was afraid to leave the table, that maybe the people would think we walked out on the bill, but then I was like What the heck, I don't care what they think.. and I ran down the road!

As I approached, Chris looked at me, and I gave an absolutely ridiculous wave, and he made a funny face and waved back at me! Then Dan and I talked to him for about 2 minutes or so. He was really nice, and asked where we were from, how long we were staying, and stuff like that. It was GREAT! We got two pictures with him, and he shook our hands. It was definitely a GREAT start to our day! We were so excited!

We had wanted to meet Aled and the rest of the team, too... but really... that wasn't possible, and Chris is the main person on the show... after all, it's called The Chris Moyles Show! So, we were so happy!

We left and took a walk to Oxford Street and checked out the shops and stuff like that. A woman from a Spanish TV program came up to Dan and asked him if he could make a prediction about who would win an upcoming "football" (soccer) game. Dan said he was American, and didn't know much about it... but she said that wasn't a problem at all! SO... He picked a team, and made a guess! SO RANDOM! So, Dan may be on some random Spanish news program tonight!

We wandered around, and then saw a place selling tickets for shows, similar to the TKTS thing in NY. We went up and asked about Much Ado About Nothing, which is a Shakespeare play starring David Tennant and Catherine Tate! (For those of you who don't know... David Tennant played the 10th Doctor on Dr. Who, which is an amazing show, and he was my FAVORITE version of the Doctor! Catherine Tate played his companion, Donna, for several seasons.)

I only found out about this show a couple of weeks ago, and we looked online for tickets, but it was completely sold out. Sad! We thought it would have been so amazing to SEE them while in London! It was purely by chance that we wound up near that ticket booth, and it turned out, they DID had tickets. Sadly, the price was the equivalent of just over $100 per ticket, and it sounded a little steep! There were a lot of ticket vendor places along this road, so we went to see the others. Each one we went to had no tickets at all, but suggested we try the box office at the theater, as sometimes they have extras that aren't released.

We weren't very hopeful, especially since this is the FIFTH day of the show! It just opened. In face it's in previews, and it's first day was Monday. We strolled into the theater at 10:23, and asked at the window. They said they were having a SPECIAL ticket lottery this morning, and that they would give you a number, and if called, you could buy one ticket for 10 (approx $16). It was only seven minutes away, so we said WHY NOT! We took a number, and sat in the lobby. At 10:30, they started the drawing. There were 20 seats to be given away. The second number to be called was DAN! YEAHHHHH!! He went up and got his ticket, but that still meant I didn't know if I would get one! We waited and I was the FIFTH person to be called! How great is that! Because of the nature of the system, we actually have seats that are one away from eachother, meaning someone is sitting between us... but it's very likely that they will be nice enough to switch! :) We shall see tonight....

All I know is that it was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT timing, and we got what WOULD have cost us over $200 for just $32! AMAZING!

I couldn't imagine the day getting any better! We had already had a great breakfast, met our #1 favorite British celebrity, and now knew we were going to see David Tennant and Catherine Tate in a play! So-freaking-cool!

We walked around some more, and then went to the London Transport Museum. We got in for the Student Rate, a savings of over $10! Our tickets are actually annual passes, though I doubt we'll have another occasion to use them before they expire!

It was a really cool museum and we had a fun time! The Underground here is so cool, there's just something about it that makes it an attraction in itself. Everything about it, actually. It's just fun, and cool!

After that, we walked around some more, had had lunch at a Pizza Hut. It's totally different from our Pizza Huts... first off, it's not actually a hut, and second, it's a lot fancier. We got the "all you can eat buffet" of all types of pizza and pasta. It was good!

Then we headed back to the hotel to take a nap. While we were here, we decided to listen to the Chris Moyles Show from the morning, and see if he said anything when he got back into the studio. Gotta say, I was excited to hear what he said after we had met, but I wasn't getting my hopes up that he would actually mention us... I thought it was probably a pretty big long shot!

I got the iPlayer opened, fast forwarded to the approximate time, and played. WHOA! HE DID MENTION US, AND OUR ENTIRE CONVERSATION! IT WAS A BAZILLION TIMES BETTER THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED!! In case you're a regular of British radio, as I am sure none of my friends are, here's a clip....

This day is freaking amazing in so many ways, for so many reasons! Now we're in our hotel room, Dan has already started his nap, and I have to take a short one also! We wanna rest up for the play, and then I'll be back with another update!!

5/21/11 - 2:13am London
5/20/11 - 9:13pm New York

Wow! What a fun night! I already filled you in on the amazingness of the morning, but I have so much more to tell you! So, we got up at 5:00 and got ready for the play! We left here and took the tube to Leicester Square. We were a little hungry,so we got some food to hold us over at Burger King! It's so strange here, they don't have regular chicken tenders, they have weird chicken balls that aren't really that good!

After that we got over to the theater, and found our seats. We wound up sitting next to eachother because someone else from the ticket lottery was next to us, and wanted to switch. (Basically she didn't give us a choice, but it worked out fine.)

The play was AMAZING! First off, SEEING David Tennant and Catherine Tate RIGHT in front of us with our own eyes was INCREDIBLE. We were in the third row! They were soooo freaking close! Aside from that, the play was really good too! I loved it, loved the acting, loved the story. It was such a fun time!

When the show was over, we went around the back of the theater, and they had a little barricade area set up, and so we waited for them to come out! We saw some of the other actors leave, and then David and Catherine came out!! They signed autographs and said Hi to people! I got a lot of good pictures, and we got our tickets signed! WOO HOO!

So, let's recap... today we MET Chris Moyles, won tickets to see a great show that JUST opened for almost nothing, sat three rows from David Tennant and Catherine Tate, AND got their autographs!

And to top it off, we wrote a message to Aled from the Chris Moyles show, and he said we could come by and say Hi to him on Sunday! So basically, in this trip we are going to meet EVERY SINGLE British person we watch/see/follow from back home. What the heck... I could never have even imagined!

After the show, we went to a club, had a few drinks, and it was really funny, they were showing Batman on a giant screen! (Batman the movie from the 70s!)

We left around 12:30 and were exhausted... it's been a LONG day! We took the LAST 15 Bus to our hotel, and now we're off to bed!

This trip has ALREADY exceeded all expectations.... I can't imagine what's to come! :)

Planning to sleep a little later tomorrow, and then see where the day takes us.

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
