"marriage equality for new york" or "10 years since graduation"

Hey Journal!

Happy Friday!!! and what a Friday it was!

This morning, I got up and headed off to work. I had a lot of random stuff to do, and in the morning I had to replace the battery backup on the server which had been going crazy the last few days!

Today wasn't nearly as bad as the rest of the week had been! It was a little slower, and I had a chance to catch up on some work.

At about 3:00, I went out to take a little break, and went to the bank to deposit some checks I had laying around for a while, and then sat in the bank parking lot and played some Hanging with Friends for about 10 minutes before heading back. That was my exciting lunch break! :P

I departed at 5 and headed home, and when I arrived, I watched the news and got ready to go out to dinner with Kristen and Don!

When Dan got home, he got ready, and at 7:00, we went and picked them up. We decided on Meson Ole for dinner tonight, and I thoroughly enjoyed my arroz con pollo! :)

After dinner, we went to Target, and walked around there for a bit. We had planned to go to Chili's and have some margaritas, but we got word that the New York State Senate vote on marriage equality was going to be happening at any minute, so we came back here and sat ourselves in front of the TV to watch!

First of all, as we have discovered this whole week, the music that they play on the New York Senate channel when the Senate is not in session is absolutely amazing. It's so random, and so strange, but wonderful at the same time! Then, the show began.

They came in, and voted on some random stuff, and then it was time for the bill everyone was waiting for! First, they voted on the amendments which passed, and then a couple of Senators got to explain their vote. At first, they were going to let them all talk with a 2 minute limit, but because the first two speakers took well over the allotted time, they decided to cut it short!

The worst part of the speaking was that first, they kept going over the two minute limit and not even TRYING to wrap it up, and then they spoke sooooooo freaking slowly...as if they hadn't prepared a speech or anything! They had all freaking week for this! Why!!?

Senator Grisanti and Senator Saland gave really nice speeches and then it was time for the vote!

And so, as I'm sure you already know, the marriage equality bill passed the New York State Senate in a vote of 33-29!

Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the bill into law at 11:55pm, and BOOM! 30 days from today, it goes into effect! Very cool, indeed.

Well, after hearing that news, Kristen, Don, Dan, and I went out to Chili's for the drinks we had planned to get, and this made our trip a celebration!

I haven't been to the Commack Chili's in a long time, and this visit brought back memories of when we used to go with Kristen after work back about four years ago! So wild how time flies, and how long ago that was, even though it seems like just yesterday!

Also, today is the 24th, and that is exactly ten years from the day of our high school graduation! Can you believe it! So insane. Ten years ago today we were out on the field, getting our diplomas, and then came home for a big graduation party, with college ahead of us! How can it be ten years already! It's unfathomable. College is over, and we have jobs, and wow. 10 years is a long time! It really is.

Anyway, it's time for bed now!! Today was definitely a fun, special, and historical Friday! :)

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
