"hurricane stories"

Hey Journal!

Well, last night I couldn't write my Sunday entry because we had no power as a result of Hurricane Irene! :P

I left off in my last entry after getting home from Kristen and Don's house just as the storm was getting started! I watched the news a little more when I got home, and then decided to sleep on the couch for the night!

The power flickered a couple of times in the early morning hours, like 2-5am. I woke up several times because when the power would flicker, the touch light would turn on, and it would wake me up... that wasn't too fun!

Anyway, Dan had wanted to get up at 6:30 and check out the storm, so he set his alarm. I woke up too, since it was pretty loud when it went off. At about 7:00, the power went out, and this time it stayed out! We went back to sleep, and I slept pretty well until about 11:00 when Dan woke me up and told me to look outside!

One of the giant Oak trees on the lawn outside had fallen over! The roots were hanging out of the ground, and the tree was leaning over onto another tree! It was wild!

We hung around the house for a while and started to play a game of Phase 10! Then at about 12:00, the winds stated to die down and we decided to take a ride around to see what had happened around town. We drove down to Main Street and passed a ton of downed trees and power lines! We took some pictures of the damage we saw, and then we made a stop to say hi to my mom and my grandparents! They had no power either. All of the traffic lights we passed were out, and it was pretty wild!

Then we decided to take a ride up to the golf course and see how things were there. Surprisingly, on the Northern State and the Expressway, there were no signs at all of damage! You wouldn't even know a storm had gone by! It was so strange how one area could be so different from another!

When we got to the golf course, everything was fine. The clubhouse had no damage at all! No flooding, no wind problems, nothing! In fact, and this is really strange... the power didn't go off at all... it stayed on the entire time. The phones and internet were all working, too!

We took a little spin around the golf course, and there were two small trees down, and a lot of debris on the course, but nothing that would be a big problem! It really is amazing!

We came home, and hung out for a while, finished our game of Phase 10, and then watched the guys who came to take down the big tree on the lawn! They climbed up the trunk and started cutting limbs, and it was really wild. Lots of people were outside watching. We talked to two of the board people, and they were in rare form today! They were drinking wine, and they were in quite a different spirit than they usually are at the meetings! Wildness!

We were outside for a while watching the guys work on the tree, and the wind really started to pick up! It was crazy how windy it was tonight!

At 7:00, we went out to Re's and picked her up to go out for dinner. We didn't know where to go, so we headed over to 110 in search of food! We went to Houlihan's, but they had an hour wait! How crazy is that!? So, instead we tried heading north, but the power was out there. There were diners open, but they all had big crowds, too!

We wound up going to Wendy's on Deer Park Avenue! It was wild. It was so hard finding somewhere to eat, and I was getting hungry! The line was long, but moved fast. There was a guy and girl in front of us on line and they were a very interesting pair. The girl looked like some sort of Lindsay Lohan-ish person, and she was completely out of it. She was a mess. The boy was REALLY cute and didn't look like he should be with her. He was also annoyed by everything she did. She kept hanging all over him, and he was having none of it. After he ordered the food, he was waiting for it, and she came up to him and asked, "What are you DOING?" in a really snotty voice. He replied, "I'm waiting for our food." Then she sat down in the restaurant, and looked like she was going to pass out. She was insane. She dropped her phone, at one point, and he had to come over and tell her to pick it up. Oh, and then there was the moment on the line when she asked him what the "Oswego Chicken Sandwich" was. He corrected her... "It's Asiago."

After that, we went to Sonic and got Slushes, and then dropped Re off at home.

We got back, and still had no power, and I was really happy. I know everyone else was complaining about it, but it was GREAT!

We lit some candles, and I read a chapter or two of my Chris Moyles book. It really is a good, funny, book.

It was pitch black out when we went to bed, and only occasionally would some light shine through the bathroom window and into the hallway when a car went by outside.

When we woke up this morning, the power was back on... and so ends the adventures of Hurricane Irene!

Be back later with more!

Adios for now. :)
