"dan is home" or "statue and high line"

Hey Journal!

This morning, we got up at about 9:00, and planned to go to the city to see the Statue of Liberty. We headed out, and stopped for breakfast at the diner.

We had a wild waitress named Yolanda. She was very nice, but a little crazy! After every time we thanked her for anything, she said, "My Pleasure!" And then just before the food came out, she brought us over some extra napkins. Then, when the food came, she moved the napkins to the middle of the table, as if to remind us that they were there (because they weren't in the way where they had been!) Then, when she came back with a plate of toast... she moved them AGAIN! This was all within like 3 minutes. It was so wild.

She was very nice though, and when it was time for the check, she brought over a brown paper bag and said, "Here are some cookies for the holiday!" Inside, there were two large chocolate chip cookies! It was very nice of her to give them to us, and I ate it later on the train, but the whole experience was so odd! I was just sad that Dan wasn't there to experience it with me... he would have loved it!

Speaking of that, he was going to try to take a very early morning flight from San Francisco to get home earlier, but when we called to make the change, there were no longer any available seats on the flight. He is going to try to switch to a different one a little later!

After we ate, we stopped to get gas in the car and then headed over to the Ronkonkoma train station. We bought tickets at the machine, and then got on the train. The train left at 11:11.

We got to the city and walked through the High Line Park from the beginning to the end (or the end to the beginning... depending on your prospective!)

After that, we took a Subway the rest of the way down to Battery Park, and then we got on the line for the ferry to the Statue of Liberty! We went over there, and walked around, took some pictures, and then got back on the ferry. We decided not to stop at Ellis Island because this was the last 30 minute ferry, and the next one wouldn't have been for an hour, and we didn't really want to stay there that long.

When we got back to Battery Park, we took the South Ferry Subway up to Penn Station and got a slice of pizza. We hurried to make the 4:51 train, and when we got on, we realized that we had gotten on an express train which didn't make a single stop from Penn Station to Hicksville, and then no stops after that until Deer Park! Pretty nice!! We lucked out, because all the ones around there made either all of the stops, or took longer!

Unfortunately, because it was Veteran's Day, we purchased Off Peak tickets, but we didn't know that they MTA doesn't consider Veteran's Day to be a holiday schedule! On the way, we had no problem because it was an off-peak train anyway, but then coming back we were on a peak! I asked the woman at the ticket booth in Penn Station, and she told me they would just charge me the difference on the train, but when the conductor came around, I tried to explain it to him, and he quickly took my ticket and kept going. He gave me a look that said, "Don't worry about it." :) It was very nice of him.

So, we got back to Ronkonkoma and headed home. I showered up and got settled, and then Frank and I went to the mall to take a walk around. We walked around, and then left the mall and drove to the Starbucks in Stony Brook. I got a hot chocolate, and we sat there for a while just hanging out.

Dan was supposed to arrive home around 9:45, so headed home to be there when he arrived! :) He got home from his long trip to San Francisco, and we headed out to Meson Ole for dinner! We were the only ones in the restaurant... it was pretty late, I guess!

We had dinner, and then after that we went over to say Hi to Dan's mom. We hung out there for about 10 minutes or so, and then we went for a random drive, and showed Frank KPPC. (What visit to Smithtown would be complete without seeing that magical place!)

We got home a little while ago, and I'm super tired! Tomorrow we are supposed to be going to the city again! Yikes! I don't know if I am ready for three city days in a row!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
