"the long drive home" or "toronto, niagara, syracuse, cracker barrell, home!"

Hey Journal!

This morning we got up at 9, got ready, and packed up our stuff to say goodbye to Toronto! This three day weekend went by pretty quickly, but it was nice to get away and go somewhere random!

We left the hotel and headed out of the city. We stopped at a McDonald's along the highway to get some breakfast, and then we headed towards Niagara Falls! We made a quick stop to see the falls and take some pictures, and then we got back in the car, and headed for the border!

We went to the Peace Bridge because the Queens Lewiston Bridge which we had taken on the way there said it had a 60 minute wait, and the Peace Bridge had only a 10 minute wait! Before that, we stopped at the Duty Free shop and bought a really big bottle of Vodka that was also pretty cheap! We also got some Canadian Maple Syrup for Linda and Dan who made a special request for it!

And now, it was time for the moment of truth! The border crossing! As I had mentioned the other night, Dan's passport is expired, and from the US State Department website, a VALID passport is required for re-entry to the country. Although, we were told by a border agent when we called on Friday night that "a US citizen can not be denied entry to the country."

Anyway, we got on the line, and as we approached the booth, we realized we had picked the wrong line! The cars on the line to the right just kept streaming through! It was like this person would let ANYONE into the country!! However, our agent seemed like she was taking her sweet time on everyone and really giving them the third degree!

We pulled up to the booth, and Dan explained the situation. He told her what the guy on the phone had said, and she just scowled at us and asked Dan when he was getting a new passport. He told her that he was going to apply for one as soon as we got back (though he obviously had not done that yet since we still had the old one!) Anyway, she asked us who why we had travelled to Canada and if we had associated with anyone while we were there, and then permitted us to pass!

Woo Hoo! We were very excited that Dan didn't get stranded in Canada.... well, at least I was... I think Dan may have been hoping to get stuck there!

Our drive home had a lot more stops than our drive there! We drove 2.5 hours from the border to Syracuse and then stopped at my Uncle's house! He was at home with my cousin Alexis and some of her friends. They were wild, and running all over the place! They were all friendly and happy to see us! Two of the friends were a little crazy, and jumped up on me and asked me to hold them! They showed us a fort they had built in the basement using sheets and an umbrella, and then we talked to my uncle at the kitchen table for a bit, and then hit the road. Our stop was about 45 minutes.

Before hitting the highway, we stopped at Wegman's...because... Who can resist Wegman's?

Next we went to the Carousel Mall and walked around a little, and then it was back in the car to face the long drive home!

We stopped one more time around Binghamton at a Cracker Barrel for dinner! I got the chicken and dumplings! Mmmmm! It was really good. I think this was the first time that I ate the entire plate-full!!

It was getting late, and we realized we weren't going to be home before 10. Ugh! So basically, we had been driving since 10am! We did make a bunch of stops, but it was just getting so tedious being in the car! The end of the drive DRAGGED!

We finally got back at about 10, and I took a shower right way! Now we are EXHAUSTED and have to get to sleep so we can get up and go back to work!
