"greetings from toronto" or "dundas"

Hey Journal!

Greetings from Toronto, Ontario, Canada! Woo!

This morning, we got up at 3:40 when Dan's alarm went off! Ugh! Soo early!

We got out of bed and ready to go! We left the house a little after 4, and we had to stop over at Dan's parents' house to collect his birth certificate since his passport is expired! (See last night's entry for THAT story!!)

So, after that, we got gas, and were officially on the road at 4:30!

We started the long drive, and on the way we listened to the STRANGE Radio Classics channel on Sirius. There were some really weird shows on, one about a woman who was coming to stay at a relative's house and was bringing "the countess." The countess was a dog, but noone knew that, and they built a giant guest house for the dog, and then found out that they didn't have a building permit, and had to tear it down. So strange.

Anyway, we made excellent time, and made up over 40 minutes by the time we stopped for breakfast at about 7:00. We stopped at a Waffle House! I had never been to one before. It was good.. nothing crazy, but good. I got a waffle, eggs, and hashbrowns.

Our waitress was wild, she left after bringing out food to, "go to the other store." Whatever that means.

So, we had our breakfast, and were back on the road!

We got to the border, and there was a LONG line of people waiting to get into Canada... not nearly as long as the line of people LEAVING Canada, though. Maybe because they have a holiday weekend this weekend, too. They have, "Family Day" on Monday! What a wild holiday!

So..we pulled into our hotel at about 2:00 and got checked in. We found some parking nearby, and then got settled in at the hotel. Then we headed out to walk around and experience Toronto!

We went to Yonge-Dundas Square, which is like Toronto's equivalent to Times Square! Then we went to the Toronto Eaton Centre which is like a big mall! They had lots of cool stores that we don't have in the US, and some that they have in England, which made me super excited! Unfortunately, although I wanted to buy something here, I couldn't find anything I wanted... actually.. the one thing I did want wasn't in my size! Ugh!!

We went for lunch at a place called Eggspectations and I got a steak with an egg. It was good.

After that we walked around that area a little and then we headed back to the hotel. We needed a little rest after the trip. We took a nap, and slept for about 2 hours. We got up, and ready to go out, and then left the room at about 8.

We took a subway, the TTC, which is WILD! I like the stations, and the subway seems pretty clean and efficient, but there are so many random things about it. They have an area called the DWA: Designated Waiting Area... Now, we're not exactly sure why you would need a designated waiting area for the next train... Everyone lines up on the platform like a normal train... so what is the purpose of the designated area?

We wound up down at the CN Tower and took some pictures and checked it out! It was pretty cool, but we decided not to go to the top since it was a little expensive, and all we would have done was gone up and looked around, obviously.

So, we had a fun time, and then we were hungry for dinner. We went to an Irish Pub near there, and it was pretty cool. I got a Shepperd's Pie, and it as amazing! I've had them before, but this one was probably the best I've ever had. All I kept thinking of was Aled's dad.. "Shw mae?"

The decoration and atmosphere at the pub was cool, and then we left and headed back to the hotel. We got back here around 11, and now it's time to BED! I can barely keep my eyes open! We need to get some sleep for tomorrow!! Nothing really planned, but we're looking forward to just walking around and exploring whatever there may be in the area!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
