"the queen's diamond jubilee" or "the iron lady"

Well, Journal.... It's Sunday night, and another weekend has come to a close. How sad.

We got up this morning around 10:00, and we put on BBC America to tune in to the LIVE coverage of the Thames Pageant, part of the Queen's Jubilee! Woo!

It was pretty fun to watch, especially having visited there, and seeing it all over again on TV. And of course, nothing is quite as exciting as the Queen herself. She's a wild one, alright. I loved how she didn't sit down the entire time, even though she had two perfectly good red thrones in front of her. I think the Queen gets more and more amazing the older she gets.

We have been watching some shows (today) about her reign, and her life, and while I think she was cool back then, she is much cooler now.

One thing I liked about watching the coverage on BBC America (a simulcast of BBCOne), was that every time they would show the queen, she would be standing and looking very sternly at the day's events... and yet, the commentators would say that she was clearly having a wonderful time! How could they possibly tell!?

Another surprise, we were watching, and I heard a voice... I was like... "That voice sounds so familiar." I went back, and we listened again, and I really really thought it sounded like Fearne Cotton, who's on BBC Radio 1 after Chris Moyles. Then later in the show, they spoke to her and showed her on camera, and sure enough, it was her!

It's a shame it rained so much, but it was still a cool event. They kept mentioning how warm and beautiful it had been last week! YEAH!! We were there for that!

Dan went out to get us breakfast from McDonald's and we ate while watching.

When it was over, it felt like a rainy and dreary day outside since that's what we'd been seeing on TV... but when we looked out... it was a bright, beautiful day!!

We headed out and went over to hear about Dan's mom's trip. She just got back last night. She told us all about her time in Italy, and Germany, and Greece, and the cruise they took, and she said she had a really good time.

Later, on our way back home, we took a walk around Smithtown Day. Yes, today was the annual Smithtown Day, and although there is NEVER anything interesting there, we always feel compelled to walk around and scope out the situation.

We made a quick walk down Main St, and sure enough, we were right... nothing good. Also, on the people watching front... WHERE do these people surface from!? Everyone was so weird looking. We were not very happy with the crop.

Next, we went to Re's to go out to dinner. She had requested Jackson Hall because she was in the mood for the Mac & Cheese. We went to her apartment, and then took a walk over to the restaurant. I got the Mac and Cheese as well. It was good, but it's a little bit of an expensive place. Especially for Mac & Cheese. lol

After dinner, we headed home and stopped at Target on the way. We also wanted to see the movie The Iron Lady, which I had started watching on the plane.

I actually had watched the beginning 20 minutes TWICE... once on the way there, and once on the way back, but I stopped because it looked like a really good movie, and I wanted to wait to watch it until I could really devote my attention to it. It was too loud and noisy on the plane to hear everything.

So, we had never used a RedBox before, but decided to give it a try to rent this movie. I looked up the movie we wanted, and then searched for locations nearby that had it. There was one not far, and right on our way home. We pulled into the CVS parking lot, and checked it out. I also found a coupon code online for a free rental. YAY! So we saved ourselves the 1.30 it would have cost, and we rented our first RedBox movie.

When we got home, we watched it. It was very good. I really did enjoy the movie. Then, afterwards, I took a shower.

And now, I have a random question about microwaves... Who knew they were so smart!? I just went to heat something up, and the package told me to put it in for 90 seconds, so I pressed 9-0-Start. It worked fine. But, I could just as easily pressed 1-3-0-Start.

Microwave 90 or 130... how does it know when you're talking about minutes and seconds vs. just seconds!? How does it know that if I put in 1-2-0 that I don't want 120 seconds!? I guess that anything over 99 seconds is considered to be entered in minutes and seconds. Very weird.

Anyway, I am going to have a frozen pretzel now before I go to bed!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
