"early morning wake up call" or "defensive driving online"

Hey Journal!

Today started in a very abrupt way. At 6:30 am on the dot, my phone started ringing and I had no idea what was going on. At first, I think I thought it was part of my dream, but then I started to wake up and realized I was actually getting a call. I was confused, and when I saw that it was work calling me, I started worrying that I had overslept or something!

Then I realized how early it was, and answered the phone. It was Dan's mom calling to say that none of the computers in the building were working, and that they weren't able to ring up anything, or clock in! I asked her a few questions of things to check for, but everything looked like it was working fine. I tried to connect from home, and couldn't, so I knew I had to go in and figure it out.

I told her I'd be there as soon as I could, and I got dressed and ready to go. Actually, I guess it's better that it happened that way, because if I had been able to fix it from home, I would have been up and had a hard time getting back to sleep anyway!

So, I left, and Dan wasn't back from his morning walk yet! I drove around the neighborhood where he usually walks to find him and tell him that I was leaving for work!

There was atrocious traffic on the way. I was so mad. First, 111 was closed for construction, and then 347 had a problem with the traffic light, and I was trying to cross it, but the light NEVER changed. A motorcycle went around me and went through the light, and after careful consideration, and since noone at all was coming, I decided to do the same. It was still scary.

So, I got to work and assessed the situation. It was a broken 16 Port Switch. Blah! I wanted to order a new one from Dell, but obviously that would take time, so I needed to figure out a temporary solution. First, I found two empty ports on another switch, and transferred the server and the golf shop to that switch, which allowed them to ring stuff up. That bought me time to figure out something else.

I did a little research on my phone, since my computer wasn't working, and it looked like I might be able to get something useful at Staples or Best Buy.

At about 10:00, I went out to Staples and picked up the last 24 port switch that they had in stock. Rack mountable, of course.

I got back to work and installed it, and thankfully, everything was back to normal.

The rest of the day went by quickly, and I left at 3:00 to drop off a FedEx, and then went home.

It had already been a long day!

I texted Kristen about where she had taken her defensive driving course online. She gave me the name of the website, and also told me about a $10 off coupon code she had! NICE! I can't believe it's been three years since I took my old-person driving class, and had to do it again.

I really liked the online class. It was nice to be able to take it at work/home, and not have to sit in some weird place and listen to some annoying person.

The course was pretty straight forward... there were about 10 chapters, and each had an allotted time frame. There was a video included, and also a page of information. I actually did read every page of information, and I found it interesting. It was also written in a way to be entertaining, and had all sorts of fun facts, and random jokes thrown in. However, I would read the page, and look at the timer, and see that I still had a TON of time left! I spent this time.... thinking about the material. Yeah... that's what I did... I spent the extra time thinking about the course material.

Anyway, I broke up the class by watching the news, and before Dan got home I made ravioli for dinner. It came out a little mushy! Woops. I remember that same thing happened when Dan made it last time... I have no idea where we went wrong.

So, later on we went for a walk, and walked to Kristen and Don's house. We saw the progress on the work on their basement, and then took a stroll around outside. It was a nice night, and we hadn't seen them in quite a while. I saw them at the end of April, and the last time Dan saw them was a few weeks before that! Insane!

After our walk, my wrist was hurting a lot! I have no idea why. Instead of walking back, since it was about 9:30, Kristen and Don drove us. I finished up my driving course, and they are going to send me my certificate in 7-10 days. Nice. Best class I've taken yet, and I think this is like my 4th time doing it! Once at the Main Branch, once at the place with the boat, once at the Nesconset Branch, and once online. Woop.

I took a shower, and now I have to get to bed. My plan was to get to bed earlier than usual because of how early I got up today... but as you can see.. that didn't happen! It's now 10:40... so let's see if I can be in bed by 11!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
