"fourth of july fireworks"

Hey Journal!

Happy Fourth of July!!

This morning I got up around 11 and watched The View while I waited for Dan to arise. Once Dan was awake, we tried to figure out what we would be doing for the 4th. We really wanted to go to the city to hang out with Julio, but we looked up the parking, and it was RIDICULOUS. It's never that expensive, and it must be because they anticipated people coming for the fireworks. We could have taken the train, but either way, Dan was worried that we wouldn't get home until REALLY late, and of course we both have work tomorrow... so it wasn't such a good day for going to the city.

We decided just to hang around home and try to track down some Long Island fireworks.

We went out for breakfast at the Lake Grove Diner, and then we looked at some Twilight Zone episodes that were on today, and set the TiVo to record them!

Next we went over to Target and took a quick walk around there. I found the hair dye that I used last time, and bought it so that I can do it again. I want to do it again soon, and then I want to do it again before our cruise in January!! Woo!

The woman on the box is so weird looking though, and then they have a picture of her full-length on the side of the box, and she looks emaciated and is wearing what looks like a burlap sack with rope around it. Why would that appeal to anyone to buy this product. I mean, I did, but... it wasn't because of her!

After that we went to say HI to my mom and see what she was doing today. She wasn't doing anything. We made plans to go to the fireworks show at Bald Hill and then we went back home to relax, have something to eat, and get ready to go.

Dan and I cut up the rest of the watermelon we had bought the other day, and then we watched some Twilight Zone! At 5:00, we departed and picked up my mom for the fireworks.

We got a beach blanket and brought Uno and a deck of cards with us to keep us busy while we waited. We got there a few minutes before 6:00 and got a parking spot close to the exit. They hadn't opened the doors yet, so we got on line to get in. The line wasn't too bad, and I was surprised that there weren't more people there already.

They eventually let us in around 6:15 and we found a nice spot on the grass in the shade. It was a nice spot until our neighboring groups set up. To our left we had a man with a plastic bag wrapped around his hand who looked gross and dirty. Then, diagonally we had a man smoking a cigar. We moved a little to the right to get away from the garbage man, and someone else came to fill in the void. A family that looked like...the Clampetts. I mean, they were so weird, old fashioned, and we think they smelled a little.

This wasn't very surprising since MOST of the people there looked like they were from another planet. It was a real weird group of people.

At 7:30, the Long Island Philharmonic played some music. It was good music, and we played Uno, and just hung out waiting for the fireworks to start. Dan knew the guy who was running the event from his old job, so he was able to get some free beers.

We were happy to get something for free because they were confiscating bottled water on the way in. I can't imagine how they can tell people they aren't allowed to bring in sealed bottles of water to an event on a hot summer day. You can even bring that to a baseball game! Meanwhile, the town and state governments are always telling you how important it is to bring water with you, and keep hydrated when you're out in the sun... but then a town sponsored event on town property will tell you that you aren't allowed to have a bottle of water. Absurd. It was really stupid. I mean, I totally understand that people may try to bring alcohol in, but first off.. this was a real family-type event... not the rowdy crowd... but even so.. just like a baseball game, allow only SEALED bottles, so you know that it's really just water.

Eventually, 9:30 came, and the fireworks started. It was a nice show, and a nice thing to do on the 4th of July. I always like going to see fireworks, and I feel like we never do on the 4th!

When it was over, it was 9:49, and we headed right for the car! There was a little traffic getting out of the parking lot... but luckily we were near the exit. We dropped my mom off around 10:30 and then we went to Wendy's to get some food.

I just took a shower, had a TV dinner, and now it's time for bed!

Back to work tomorrow... but at least it's Thursday!!

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
