"the longest day ever!" or "sandy's aftermath"

Hey Journal!

Well, I got a horrible night's sleep last night because Dan was snoring like crazy. We woke up around 6:00, and I called his work to see if they had updated their message. They did, but it said to call back around 11:00 to find out if they would be open or not!

We got out of bed and waited for it to get light out. I had something to eat, and then we went out to get some pics of the craziness!

After that we drove over to Dan's parents' house and lots of streets were blocked off by fallen trees. Their street was much better than the others! We had no way of getting to their house the usual way, so we had to go back around from over by Morewood.

After that we headed over to Nesconset to see what was happening there. Somehow, that one little area is the only place with power! The CVS shopping center had power, and there was a huge line out the door at the bagel store!

My Grandma asked if we could go see if my Aunt Janice had power, so we went around there, and then came back.

When we got back, we had a little breakfast, my mom made us eggs, and then we hit the road again. We actually came home, got all our frozen food, and then brought it back to put in the freezer.

This was about 9:45, and my mom had left to start to make her way to work. Her message said that they would have a delayed opening, but to call back at 10 to see what the final verdict was. At 10, she called, and found out that they would not be opening today.

Dan's work still had a message saying to call back at 11. We took a ride up to the golf course and thankfully things there are pretty good. No power, of course, but there were a couple of trees down, but not even that bad.

Looking out on the course from the back patio, it doesn't like like many trees went down on the course. Two of the doors in the restaurant had flown open in the wind, but the only issue they caused was blowing leaves into the dining room. There were napkins and forks on the floor, but if that's the least of the problems we have, we're very lucky.

We left there and headed back home again. We finally got through to Dan's message from work, and it was changed to say that they would be closed today! Woo!

When we got home, we took more pictures of the craziness on our lawn. One of the wildest scenes I saw today was a tree down in the street with a fire hydrant in the middle of the street! How the heck did that happen!!??

We decided to take a walk down Maple, and made it to Kristen and Don's house. Unfortunately, they weren't home, so we had to take our weary legs and walk all the way back.

It started to drizzle as we walked, but then it cleared up and there was a beautiful blue sky!

We made some PB&J sandwiches and then rested up for a little bit. By that point, it was only about 1:30, but it felt SO LATE! It was also super boring with no power!

My Grandma made spaghetti for dinner and invited us to come over, so we headed over there around 3ish and when we arrived, Ryan and Eric were also there. They were watching a movie called The Edge that my mom put on. It was a DVD, they still don't have cable back.

The movie was one of the stupidest movies I have ever seen. It made no sense, and it had a bear that was staling that, which bears don't even do! It was ridiculous.

After that movie was over, I thought that the perfect movie for them to watch would be BUSHWHACKED! You know everyone needs to be introduced to it. It's a classic.

We didn't have it there, so I came home to get it. I drove my mom's car, and my mom and Ryan came with me. They got to see the giant tree down in our yard, and then we got the DVD and headed back.

We started watching the movie, and then it was time for spaghetti dinner. After we ate, we finished the movie.

We hung out for a little while, and just before we left, my Aunt Regina stopped by.

When we left, we went over to Brian and Jessica's apartment to say hello. They also had power, but no cable. We stayed there for about a half hour, and I got to watch some of Eyewitness News on my cell phone because they had excellent cell service there.

It's so weird going from somewhere with great service back home and having nothing. No internet, no power... it's pathetic!

We got back here around 8: 15 and the state DOT was clearing our giant tree out of the road! It was amazing. There were a lot of people out watch it, and so we hung out and talked to them.

There are so many people who live here that we have never met, and even the two people we had spoken to ONCE we don't really know. It was really nice to talk to people in a really friendly way. Everyone was so nice, and it was a lot of fun! We found out the names of the nice people we always wave to.... Adrienne and Mark, and then we met someone named Victor what apparently has a father named Z which his short for Sion, and we also met the girl who has the apartment with the GIANT TV that we always see from our window!

Then we came inside, and then went out a little later to continue the party. We all agreed to do it again tomorrow at 9pm!

We came in around 10:30, and now it's time for bed. It feels like it's about 3am. This has got to be one of the longest days I have ever had. It felt like it would never end!!

Tomorrow I'm heading back to work to see what can be done.... probably nothing.

Until tomorrow...

Goodnight. :)
